This is the only photo I was able to take of this beautiful species endemic to Madagascar and which is new to me.

Sorry for the poor photo quality.

Species # 1342

For this weeks (Macro Monday) challenge (Hook) I went with lots of different hooks. my lighting is from a stationary blue light and blue ring flash.

Sunset at Hook Lighthouse Co Wexford

HMM! Flickr Friends.

For this week's theme, Hook, I decided to photograph the object most often in my hands for capturing images; my Canon RP.

The hook and subjects are those precious hooks that keep the camera and lens from falling further than the length of my arms. I use a cross-body strap that has a carabiner attached to an eyelet stud in the tripod mount.

Why 2 hooks? One time in the field with the camera I reached down picking it up and the eyelet had unscrewed to the point it fell off the camera just as I was raising it to my eye! ... so when I got home I immediately ordered a "safety cord" that could be attached to the camera with a 2nd carabiner on the other end that attaches to the strap. The camera often hangs by the strap on the hall tree next to my photography "vest of many pockets" which provides the background for the image. The image this week is captured with the Nikon 1 V3 and the 18.5mm, f/1.8 lens that can focus very close.

Thanks in advance for your Views, Favs and Comments.

Nice place to walk around and definitely worth a visit with a guided tour!

Macro Monday's

Hook Head Lighthouse, Wexford.

A snap decision to visit Hook Lighthouse but when I got there the lovely blue skies had disappeared.

This hook, on a ratchet winch, is about 3" x 2.5". Th meet the size restrictions for Macro Mondays I have cropped this to show a section that is around 2"x2".

The hook shows sign of having been cast in a sand mould and has been plated to minimise corrosion.

Hook for Macro Mondays

My Entry for Crazy Tuesday. Hook. Also I added a shadow to the photo. Coat rack hooks with other hooks hanging. The blue funny shaped hook and the cane are the most expensive souvenirs from when I fractured my femur in 2019. The skinny tan hook is also, it’s to put your socks on. The silver hook is just that and the dogs leash is hanging on the bottom hook. It may look like I’m hooked but I’m over it now 😁☮️

For this week's Macro Mondays theme: 'Hook'

I lay flat on my stomach to get this shot. Got some funny looks!

The Canon 10-22mm on the 400D.

The sunset tonight was simply beautiful - Feb 11th at the Hook Lighthouse.

My Lomography Lomograflok back showed up on Tuesday. I had Friday off, so I took the back and my Pacemaker Speed Graphic to Sandy Hook to see how it worked. I think the answer is "quite well". It's nice to have a way to shoot Instax Wide with a decent lens instead of the crap that Fuji sells. (I actually already had an Instax Wide back on my Mercury Universal that I could use on the Speed Graphic, but I never do; it just stays on the Mercury.)

This image was captured for the Macro Mondays theme: "silhouette".

(Technical clarification: the 'apparent shadow' in this image is not a shadow at all. It is a silhouette also, layered and slightly offset from the original silhouette).

Sandy Hook Lighthouse was completed in 1764 and is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in the United States. It is 29 feet in diameter at the base and 85 feet tall. Its 45,000 candlepower light can be seen for 19 miles. It was registered as a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

You can't beat a good bit of macro. Plus I love depth of field.

Alternative Macro Monday shots for the weekly theme of 'Hook'.

After a challenging day on Tacumshane chasing shorebirds through mud and water with not a single half decent image to show, I made my way to Hook Head for sunset knowing that the lighthouse would still be there!

Macro Mondays - Hooks; small cloud of polyfoam on custom wire hook, suspended from bamboo skewer. It was a regular custom in the UK (and elsewhere I'm sure) to send apprentices/new staff to fetch some 'skyhooks' from the stores - or a 'long stand' as a joke - now it's called 'hazing'...

Beautiful sunrise at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge to go with the cold temps that were made even colder with the rather brisk winds.

Can you put a cord through its nose or pierce its jaw with a hook?

Subject

A pair of fishing hooks, each less than an inch long, form a heart. Fishing is a #SimplePleasure that I most associate with wonderful times spent with my father and stepfather at various times of my life.

It was shot for several challenges simultaneously:

Lens

On the body we have the SMC Pentax-DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL WR. It's the kit wide-angle zoom. Reversed onto that lens is the SMC Pentax-A 1:1.7 50mm.

The EXIF data only shows the information for the body-attached lens. Even at 55mm it has mild vignetting when used this way. At 18mm, only a small central circle is visible. The reversed lens is fixed at 50mm and is wide open at f1.7.

The image is not cropped or modified in any way.

Lighting

One Pentax AF540FGZ strobe is mounted on the body as the wireless master, aimed at an improvised white-paper reflector. A second AF540FGZ capped with a generic snap-on diffuser is the wireless slave, laying just outside the frame.
