Aside from the modern park bench, this scene at Fairfax, MN hasn't changed much over the years, although the semaphore is not original to this location. An eastbound Twin Cities & Western train rolls through town on the former Minneapolis & St Louis Railway.
The written history of Artziniega begins in the year 1272, when the King of Castile, Alfonso X El Sabio, granted Artziniega the letter-puebla. The Villa would be governed from now on by the jurisdiction of Bizkaia the natural one of the land, and for economic and tax matters by the jurisdiction of Vitoria. Until Don Tello's death, it belonged to Bizkaia, but upon his death, in 1370, he handed it over to his brother King Enrique II, who a year later handed it over to Pedro López de Ayala, the Chancellor, along with the valleys of Orozko and Llodio. While it belonged to Bizkaia, the Lord appointed the mayors, and later the town did so in an open council.

On a recent trip to Germany, I spent a lot of time hiking/walking in the and around the towns we were visiting. This day we were with friends at Mehling Heide near Kaiserslautern.
Starting in 1909 the Plymouth Truck Co. built trucks and then automobiles but after the request of the Bigelow Clay Co. in New London, Ohio for a device to replace their stubborn mules that transported clay from a pit to the factory Plymouth created their first locomotive. By 1928 they sold the Plymouth automobile name to Chrysler Corporation and focused on producing small locomotives for industrial use. This they continued to do until selling the company to Ohio Locomotive Crane in 1997. Production in Plymouth, Ohio ceased by 1999 with the move to Bucyrus.
In this view hovering over the cleared remains of half of the plant the Ashland Railway’s Willard turn is passing the remaining buildings of the Plymouth Locomotive Works. The lead GP38 was built for the Monongahela Railway while the trailing two GP10’s were originally Pennsylvania Railroad engines. The line they’re running on was once the Baltimore & Ohio’s mainline to Sandusky and Chicago, making that turn west at Chicago Jct. in Willard, OH. They’re also about to cross the Wheeling & Lake Erie’s former Akron, Canton & Youngstown mainline just south of the plant complex.
While the plant site is a vision of industrial decay at least the former B&O main is still active under the Ashland’s stewardship. They run up from Mansfield to Willard a couple times a week to interchange with CSX at Willard Yard and traffic on the line has been pretty health this year. Plymouth, OH 11/6/2020
Natural History: Butterflies, Bees; Dragon & Damselflies and other insects
Over the years I have visited many gardens and not un-naturally have pretty well photographed everything that’s passed my lens. I find that in the last year or two there do not seem as many insects about as there were previously. Having walked over many of the fields and footpaths locally, more intensive farming has changed the face of the countryside. I try to encourage particularly Butterflies and Bees with the planting of my front garden. Hope you enjoy what I’ve posted.
If anyone can identify this damselfly, would appreciate it if you could let me know. Thanks.
The Grand Gulch is the lowest point in the Waterpocket Fold, and Halls Creek intermittently flows through it, sustaining the cottonwoods in the lower right. The west side of the Fold rose 4,000 feet higher than the eastern side, uplifting the sandstones which were then revealed by erosion. The consistency and colors of the sandstones reveal the conditions prevailing when the sediments formed. Here, history is an open book.

I am scanning my collection of old slides while staying inside because of COVID-19 and found this photo from a trip to New York City in 1981. I sense a sad connection between the Statue of Liberty and the twin towers of the World Trade Center.
History is not there for you to like or dislike.
It is there for you to learn from it.
And if it offends you, even better.
Because then you are less likely to repeat it.
It's not yours to erase.
It belongs to all of us.

By far, this building has the most impressive interior I've ever seen.

Este es, con diferencia, el interior más impresionante que he visto jamás en un edificio.

Wheeling's Ohio Bicentennial unit along with their new 1776 unit have been the power on the Median local the last couple days and attracted quite a few fans on this sunny later October Sunday. 10/26/2025
Everyone and their brother who has visited the historic mill district in Minneapolis has taken this photo. Sometimes you just have to make it your own! Taken from under the beautiful stone arch bridge and looking into the exposed walls and waterpower features of the 19th century flour mills. This piece of important Minneapolis history was long buried under mud and gravel has now been excavated and turned into a fascinating park.

came around the corner of the steps and noticed this memorial in the middle ... pay attention or you will bump in to it. Guess that's the idea. 😮
