Dr Evadne Hinge and Dame Hilda Bracket were the stage names of George Logan and Patrick Fyffe respectively. The characters of Hinge (somewhat brittle and acerbic) and Bracket (more flamboyant) were elderly, intellectual, female musicians; in these personae the male Logan and Fyffe played and sang songs. They had the ability to bring humour into their songs, but could almost instantly switch to pathos with total sincerity. A genteel English inter-war world of cucumber sandwiches, bell ringing, church fetes and old-fashioned values was recalled through the act, although their work was frequently decorated with double entendres. The ladies shared a house (The Old Manse or Utopia Ltd.) in the fictional village of Stackton Tressel in Suffolk, where they amused themselves with recitals of Gilbert & Sullivan, Noel Coward and Ivor Novello.

The massive wooden door is meant to keep people out of this Kyoto shrine. They are beautifully adorned with iron including a heart on the hinge. I wonder; if I knock, will the door open? Will the heart open also?

Not entirely sure why I took this photo, I just liked the look and shape of it, sharpened, cropped and vignette added in Adobe Lightroom. Taken with a Fujifilm X-S1.

not perfect, but doesn't need to be

Place your hinges on the spaces where you want them, then mark in the holes where the screws should go with a pencil. Using your exacto knife, 'drill' or cut small openings for the screws. Glue the hinge on with tacky glue and then push in the screws into the openings, let dry.
