A hinge on a door on a old bank building in Stillwater, OK

Geoaching around East Peckham, Kent, 6th April 2015. Ref: D1328-15

The hinge on my backyard gate, digitally enhanced in PS.

a revamped piece, replacing faded turquoise with pixelated polymer cabs.

Painted on doors and hinged, this is ten and a half feet across, by six feet plus, tall.

Done in the late 1980's.

I'm not sure that the person who installed the hinge on our gate knew what they were doing...

Pivoting hinged doors are very new in American design. This hardware can allow the door to swing in, out, or in 360 degrees.

Our Daily Challenge 20-26 March : Boxes

Made by a craftsman who was exhibiting at the same venue as me. We swapped goods.

A new, simpler hinged post design. These feature a standard hinge mounted on top of a ball on the 1/2" disk. I am using a ball post modified with hinge knuckles soldered into place. They are made from sterling silver.

These are nice and small but the hinges give them some movement.

My hinged bracelet was full of firsts for me. This shows my first friction clasp.

Mooney Trail, Sedona, Arizona 2009-03-01: I'm not sure whether this activity

really deserved to be called "trail hiking" -- it was more of an

exploring sort of day. We headed for Mooney Trail, and decided to see how far up the trail we could

drive (the trail follows a jeep road for the first mile or two before it enters the Wilderness).

Coming out of a fairly large wash, the road was pretty rocky, and as we came around a corner,

we encountered a large rock that was proving to be moderately tricky to get over.

We backed down the hill, parked at a wide spot, and started our hike.

We hiked the mile (more or less) from the wash to the edge of the Wilderness. The jeep trail runs

along the top of a ridge with great, wide open views. It was a very warm and beautiful day, perhaps

a bit too warm for a hike out in the open sun. After crossing into the Wilderness, we spotted two trails,

one headed downhill to the right, the other uphill to the left. Consulting the GPS (but not the maps,

trailguides, or other useful references we didn't bother to bring), we headed to the left, following

the old road marked on the GPS's map. At Sebra Tank, we weren't certain where to go, but assumed the

trail followed the old road (at least whatever road is on my GPS). We wandered in circles a bit trying

to locate the road bed, headed for a high view point to get some photos, ate lunch in the shade of a tree,

and decided to call it a day.

So, while I can't call it a successful trail hike, at least we saw a little of Mooney Trail, did some

scouting, and learned a couple lessons, like, put trail maps on the GPS and have a copy of the trail

guide in my pack. We had fun, and that's what matters most. Back at the official trailhead, we stopped

at the old linehouse/pumphouse and took a lot of photos of the interesting old structures, rusty machinery,

and Black Tank.
