The beautiful pillar rocks of Kodaikanal in the Palani mountains look breathtakingly scenic and mesmerizing. A deep blue clear sky covered in white cotton like clouds which are engulfing half the green mountains. A Hindu temple sits on the plain surface of this luxurious green vegetation on the mountain. The view was so lovely that I stood there just feeling the beauty and enjoying every bit of time I spent there.

Kotagiri is one of the hill stations in the Nilgiris which enjoys a

european climate.

The place was known in the past as "Kota-Keri" or (Kota-gherry) the

street (or line of homes) of Kotas". In fact, there was a Kota

settlement there and it was only in 1911 when the lands occupied were

acquired by government for sanitary improvement purposes and the Kota

settlement had to be shifted, to 'Aggal' hamlet, 2 km. away from

Kotagiri. The temple of the Kotas dedicated to the deity 'Kamataraya'

still remains there and has been renovated. The Kotas worship at this

temple every month and the annual festival which takes place on the

"Arudra Dharshan" day at this temple is of great importance to all the

Kotas of the distrct.

John Sullivan, the first Englishman to set foot on the Nilgiri hills

pitched his tent near a village by name Dimbatti which is very close

to Kotagiri.

The Silver Cascade is probably the most popular waterfalls at

Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. I believe the water originates from the Kodaikanal Lake

Clouds covering most of the sky, but few sunrays escape through these clouds to reach the beautiful pastures in the Palani hills. Photo taken while on a leisure stroll in the Coaker's walk located on the southern slopes of the beautiful hill station of Kodaikanal. The mountains are green covered with forest with flowers present at places. It's a walk of paradise!

Can't say for sure. However, these days, thinking makes me depressed. So, these two conditions are not mutually exclusive, you see.

Fog is something that fascinates me every time I am amidst of it. As the clouds roll and the winds start to pick up, the fog gently lifting and the sun's rays beaming through all makes for a compelling wintry morning...

As we gear up to it, I was reminiscing with one I had shot a few years ago in Kerala, India. Munnar is one of the most renowned hill stations in Southern India. It brims with vast expanses of tea estates and the tea plantation is something that generates a lot of revenue for the country.

The name Munnar is believed to mean "three rivers", referring to its location at the confluence of the Mudhirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers.

This was shot from one of the locations up in the mountains and would you believe at 10 AM in the morning! It was that foggy that morning.

If you see it for a while, your eyes could start discerning the other trees amidst the fog...

Shimla, the one word that can bring images of cool wind, of magnificent mountains, snowfall and nature in her best form, is a capital city of Himachal Pradesh. The other capital is Dharamshala, which is located about 240 km from Shimla. This magnificent hill station is encircled by Mandi, Kullu and Kinnaur, which are also brilliant places to visit. Being one of the most sought-after vacation destinations, Shimla is known as Queen of the Hills for its beauty. It used to be a summer capital during the reign of the British Raj. The city is nestled by the foothills of the Himalayas. Since Shimla is located just about 340 km from Delhi, the hill station can be an ideal escape, especially during summer.

A beautiful shot from Kashmir, the heaven on earth, gives a fair idea of the beauty of the place. The tirelessly moving water flowing downstream finding its path along the rocks, boulders and pebbles just like life which continues to move forward despite hurdles. The green vegetation stands along like spectators watching the lovely stream flow by.

The weather in Abha during 3rd week of July 2021 has resulted into the formation of beautiful Stratus clouds in the valley of the Sarawat mountains. It was a pleasing experience to explore the beauty of the region during our recent visit there.

View on the way to Tapola near the hillstation of Mahabaleshwar in the state of Maharashtra, India. This is a view of the backwaters of the Koyna dam.

This shot was taken on a daytrip to Mahabaleshwar and Tapola with friends last weekend. What I love about Pune is that a few hours drive can take you to spectacular places like this. Mahabaleshwar is famous for its strawberries and we bought strawberries which we were allowed to pick ourselves on a little farm.We also enjoyed delicious strawberries and cream.:-)

This is one of the longest migrating raptors in the planet. The annual migration covers around 22,000 km - 30,000 km / 14-18,000 miles starting from Siberia / Northern Mongolia to India and onward to South Africa. From the coasts of India, they fly over the sea to Africa covering around 3-4000 kms nonstop without touching the ground for 5-6 days.

For the past 2 years, the birds are making a stopover briefly at a hill station near Mumbai for a couple of weeks. And 100's of bird lovers like me make a visit to watch them and get some pictures from up close.

In this hillstation, they frequent a dried up lakebed and seem to prefer some wild lavender fields where they hunt for insects and caterpillars. They spend sometime in them walking around and looking for insects. Such fields are spread in a couple of places across the lakebed and the birds keep flying between them. This one was shot during one such flight.

Many thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

A little distance from our hotel was this scenic view of the Kodaikanal Lake. Taken on a hike to the Augstenberg in Lichtenstein. It was a rainy day but this has contributed heavily to the atmosphere of the picture.

Words always fall short in describing the beauty of Kashmir. This shot captures a view of the famous 'Betaab' valley named after a film of the same name having been shot here. The sky is crisp blue and white clouds look so well defined over the mountains covered in pine trees and grass with a stream flowing on its path. The shot seems like a part of heaven!

Lachung is a town and hill station in northeast Sikkim, India. It is located in the North Sikkim district near the border with Tibet. Lachung is at an elevation of about 9,600 feet (2,900 m) and at the confluence of the Lachen and Lachung Rivers, both tributaries of the River Teesta. The word Lachung means "small pass". The town is approximately 125 kilometres (78 mi) from the capital Gangtok.

The Indian Army has a forward base in the town. Before the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1950, Lachung was a trading post between Sikkim and Tibet, after which it was closed down. The town's economy has been boosted by tourism in recent years as the region has been opened up by the Indian government. Tourists come from all over the world to visit the town between October and May, mostly on their way to the Yumthang Valley and the Lachung Monastery. Most of Lachung's inhabitants are of Lepcha and Tibetan descent. Languages spoken here are Nepali, Lepcha and Bhutia. During winter the town is usually covered in snow. Lachung is also the base camp for Rhododendron Valley Trek which starts from Yumthang Valley and ends at Lachen Valley.

Lachung has been described as the "most picturesque village of Sikkim" by British explorer Joseph Dalton Hooker in his definitive, The Himalayan Journal (1855). Skiing is conducted in Phuni near this town.

Whitewashed village in Granada, Spain.

If I were asked to name my favorite type of images, I might have to say the abstract creations made by nature. You don't see many on my stream of travel pictures, I wish there were more. When they occur usually without much planning on my part, I consider them a gift from nature. These are reflections seen in a lily pond in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The city itself houses one of the most famous Buddhist temple in the world and is a beautiful rather mystical city in the highlands of Sri Lanka.
