Autonomy etalk’s new corporate headquarters focuses on creating an exciting, hip, and fun space that highlights their software-based products and corporate culture. Special Attention was paid to the lobby and show center to illustrate etalk’s “Meaning Based Computing” system. In the lobby and boardroom, customers enjoy open views to the Dallas Cultural District below. The views are only interrupted by a large fish tank dividing the lobby from the boardroom. Large scale artwork adds dramatic colors to the space and provides an extra touch of fun. To balance these bright colors, a natural color palette was chosen, and texture and materials were carefully selected to create an elegant space, as evidenced by the stone flooring and wool carpeting.
Change management was a critical step in achieving success on this project. The existing employee workstations required a large footprint and included high, enclosed panels. The solution for the new space was to use a 120-degree furniture system with low panels to provide a more efficient real estate solution.
Fun and multifunctional spaces were used throughout to give employees and managers places to explore and collaborate on the next generation of new ideas. For example, a new breakroom/dining/meeting space was designed to include the opportunity for friendly Xbox competitions among employees. Autonomy etalk has found that these community spaces are bringing people together and boosting productivity.

Not a rainbow but almost a cloudbow. The sun is not behind the cloud but off at an angle but gave a bit of a highlight.
Came out beautiful, reclaimed wood top (built by us) and reused cast iron legs, from the sinks, from a 19-teens former unwed mothers and children's home in Buffalo NY. (a side note: Why was there no home for unwed fathers?...where were they in this situation?...perhaps the Erie County Jail? Maybe a laundry where they could work off their immorality like the ladies might have been apporpriate?)
In our shop at ReUse Action (Reuseaction.com) we fabricate slabs out of the barn beams and building materials we collect from salvage, deconstruction and demolition jobs.
In this project we re-sawed old growth, 3x8 barn joists from Bath NY. They are beautiful old growth southern yellow pine that was cut down in the 1870s-1880s and was hundreds of years old at that time. These trees probably predated the American Revolution. I count about 120 rings per 8 inches!
The slab was built and finished with satin, water-based polyurethane. Nail holes, checks and divots were filled to a high level of finish with West System, clear epoxy. One can see to the bottom of the holes.
The cast iron base was reclaimed from a bathroom of the former unwed mothers and children's house on Harvard Place in Buffalo. It was built in the 19-teens and these legs were ganged together and held up back to back cast iron sinks. We stripped them and repainted them with satin enamel and dry brushed them with pewter paint to highlight the graininess and the embossed letters and other interesting details from the casting.
The distance between the legs was shortened and the threaded rods were shortened and re-threaded to match the length of the table. Matching feet were made and added to the bottom of the legs and levelers were added. The old square head nuts and bolts were saved, cleaned and re-used to preserve the original look.
It is on display in our store and available for $950 in the store. We bases to make 2 more of these, to any length and custom widths and other wood tops. See reuseaction.com
River highlights tickle the surface of the South Fork American River as the water accelerates over a drop. Some of the highlights, captured using a slow shutter speed (1/15th of a second), appear like inked white lines as the sun dances off the imperfections on the water's surface.
Vandenberg's Moonkings, for me the highlight of the two festivals in Leeuwarden CityRock and "Into the Grave"

I finally pick up a Karen Wilson bag. She's a local/Canadian designer. I remember first encountering her products on the Danforth and being shocked by the sticker price from a relatively new/unknown brand. When I saw her products at the Clothing Show a couple years ago I clutched onto a really nice clasp bag only to place it gingerly back on the shelf (due to the price tag). I couldn't help it with this gathered frame purse that I had been eying from Cat's Cradle (596 Yonge Street). I actually stopped in to look at a dress in the window... and well, I don't think I need to say any more.

Trafalgar Tours' "Highlights of Germany" trip

The brilliant light of the pre-sunset sun, lights up autumn-colored leaves like nothing else.
I headed out for Washington Park, in search of some of that red and orange blaze in the trees. As I walked from my car down the winding road towards the lagoon, I spotted the light and color I was looking for. I had to move to higher ground in order to get this view. The lagoon is below, and the carillon tower is straight ahead. The light was slowly setting. Shortly after this was captured, the ground in front of me was in total shadow.
Certain light only happens once a year, and then only when conditions are just right. Some photographers make pilgrimages to locations for the right light at just the right moment. Even after all the planning for sun or moon angle, and season, the clouds or rain can ruin the moment until another year passes. I'm not yet that driven, but I'm close enough that I understand those who make it a quest.
Today, I was fortunate. To be at the right place and at the right elevation, with this wonderful light among the leaves of autumn.
