This Nun captivated me .....See had an aura and a sense of such purity . This was inside one of the temples in Cambodia . There was No PP work done to her skin " so clean and pure " Nor is this selective color .I am certainly not the one to judge but I believe that her soul could possibly match that "Purity " ..........Here she is in prayer .
Divine light permeates ...
Generally I weakly attempt to capture .... " EXPLORED "
Sometimes I get lucky
This is such a moment !
"You can safely assume that you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do."
---Anne Lamott
A few years ago, I was invited to a reading at Fr. Tom's Jesuit retreat house in Oakland to hear one of my favorite writers, Anne Lamott. I remember wishing that she had written "Operating Instructions: A Journal Through My Son's First Year" when my daughter had been that age. Oh well, it was funny and instructive at any age. And I loved "Bird by Bird" a must for any writer at any level, imho.
It was a thrill to meet her in such an intimate and relaxed setting. And I count Fr Tom as a special friend, a true mensch in every sense of the word.
This was the best shot of a wonderful day.
PS: Her recent piece on Salon, "My Son the Stranger", has a nice interaction with Fr. Tom at the end, btw...
Today's quote is from The Religion of God (Divine Love) by His Divine Eminence RA Gohar Shahi. 'Performance of worship may lead one to paradise. God however is still far off reach.'
" Oh I clean myself
I sacrifice my blues
You can complete me
I complete you "
Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark
Experience has taught me
That when younger I tended to drift towards what I believed were those who seemed to complete me.
My passion
Her reasonable self
As I gained experience
I drifted towards those on a similar value and personality page
With the ensuing ups and downs
Today I realize that no one can complete me
Except than a power much greater than myself
For the time it is Chico
:-)
Later for once it will be my turn to be courted and sparked
And I am in no hurry

The baby's toes aren't close to the candle, though the perspective of the photo makes it seem so.
Granchanitsa is a UNESCO cultural site, and is also a place of tension in Kosovo. It's a historic site of the Serbian Orthodox Church, one of many in the Republic of Kosovo. Swedish soldiers from the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) guard the Monastery and ensure open and peaceful access. Photography is generally prohibited inside the Church, but on this day of celebration and hope, photos were permitted. 10 years ago, Kosovo was in the midst of a war. Perhaps when this little boy is 10 years old, the KFOR soldiers will be gone and the people of Kosovo will leave together as peacefully as most of them truly wish.

Ordered these from the US. But just yesterday, I found out that MIX GB5 sells these at very reasonable prices. I just might get my stock from them next time.
First, my apologies to those who were so in tune with the spirit that you became a blur. I know something mystical made photographers start moving around when the shutter opened. ;-)
Assignment Houston goes to St Paul's Methodist Church for a meetup on the monthly theme of places of worship. If you were here, please tag yourself with a note.if you weren't - well, look at it - what a beautiful place for a meetup.
Thanks Stephanie for arranging this....
This photo is right side up, the bells are mounted like this for faster action in the use as change bells. St Paul's is only one of about 53 churches in the US with change bells.
I published some other photos of the bells to support a photophlow conversation about the bells earlier, but this time i wanted to really show the detail and the beauty of the bells and their mechanical link to the ropes below....

The Great Masquerade / A film photo with true lens flare. I used a patio wall to place the glass on and cropped a very small amount of the glass as well as the wall from the bottom of the photo. I also used a circular polarizer filter on my lens when shot to enhance the color of the sky to try to balance the color of the blue glass.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. (NIV) Psalm 100:4
Today has been the first day I have been able to actually sit and open my computer to even think about Flickr. These past six months have been not only a test of my faith and patience but a lesson about recognizing what is REALLY important in your life. I would not have made it to this point had it not been for my support system. When they were told I needed their help without any hesitation or questions asked they were there and have been there since Day 1. I am so thankful for my faith in God and never doubting that he will always provide me with what I need. Feeling so blessed on this beautiful Sunday. {Random Thought}

What is A Medicine Wheel? by Tree-Song
A Medicine Wheel is a physical manifestation of Spiritual energy. An outward expression of an internal dialogue. A mirror in which we can better SEE what is going on within us. It is a wheel of protection and enables us, and allows us, to gather surrounding energies into a focal point and to commune with Spirit, Self and Nature (ALL elemental forces)........Creation!
It helps us with our "Vision," to see exactly where we are and in which areas we need to develop in order to realize and become our potentials. That we are all connected to one another, and by showing us the intricacies of the interwoven threads of life, what our part in it all is. It helps us understand that without our part in the tapestry the "Bigger Picture" is not as it should be. We add colour, dimension and life to each other, to all of life. No matter what colour, race or creed we are, we need each of us to create a beautiful existence and expression of the Whole.
It is a model to be used to view self, society, or anything that one could ever think of looking into. The wheel, once learned how to dance within it, offers a picture to you and also helps to add clarity to a foggy view. Like so many other things...it is a tool to be used for the upliftment and betterment of mankind, healing and connecting to infinite. We are all but one realization of "God" trying to realize self...so lets see what part we ourselves are.

Photo taken by me here in Austin on my way to work yesterday. Brilliant words written by my brother Kent in Arkansas.
During your busy or slow week or maybe no week at all -ha- remember to take the time to smell the roses, bow to the moon, smile at the sun, sing a song with the wind, and last but not least take for granted as little as you can, reminding yourself to be in tune with the universe and the fact we are fortunate enough to be allowed to be part of it. One of my higher powers is my next breath (can't claim I came up with that) but it sure as hell makes sense, inhale the positive deep in the belly hold it for a sec and slowly let all the bad energy escape- take the time to think we breathe freely without thought, we sleep in due time automatically, and we shall love ourselves equally to that of our brothers and sisters of other mothers.......... Bless each and everyone one of us, Santa doesn't really care if you have been naughty or nice, what makes him grin is knowing you have done your best! And certainly don't forget to kiss under the mistletoe.. ~ Kent Jackson Houck
The cloud shapes come together and seem to fit perfectly. Clouds are mentioned several times
in the bible.
In Genesis 9:13, God sets the rainbow in the cloud. Clouds are frequently metaphors for God's protection and guidance.
Today in Jerusalem, the final decree in a widely publicized case was read. A former president of Israel, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for serious crimes of sexual misconduct.
No one is above the law. And, may this man find solace in the clouds.

When we went to St Paul's I first thought how fun it would be to try to shoot all of the crosses. But this one, the central cross on the altar, just seemed to be all I needed once i captured it.
Some say that the circle represents eternity. Some say the circled cross is a symbolic descendant of the chi-rho, a symbol of Constantine, others say that st Patric found a rock with a pagan circle on it, drew a cross, blessed it and ended up creating the first Celtic cross.
Still it means a great many things to me and has been a part of my name for as long as i can remember....
These photo's are dedicated to the late Ms. Judith of American Ink Tattoos ... She did an amazing job taking a similar image and a collaborative vision of reincarnation, life and the after life to create an amazing piece of art. This Vase was later given to me by her apprentice who noticed the tattoo looked similar to something sitting in his father's attic.

I walked by and for some reason it struck me that the the rosary looked like it was binding her, holding her back as she tried to reach out.
For about a week now, it seems like I've been noticing a lot of churches / religious icons. Oddly enough, this weekend I find myself wrestling with the 'higher power' question...
As a gay man, the irony is not lost on me when other humans put restrictions on God's unconditional love.
