Thanks for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. I really appreciate it very much.
Heron across the bank taken from the pub garden "Fish & Eels Nazeing" What a proud elegant bird, I love the way these guys pose for me, just a shame he was not a little closer.
A portrait of a Grey Heron that was so busy hunting in the long grass that it let me approach on foot to within 10 feet. The light wasn't great and I didn't do as well as I should have done, presented with the close-up opportunity. After a few shots I was able to walk slowly away, leaving the heron to its hunting.
Just saw this after swinging around from another bird.I think I'll have to get an extender as always cropping a lot on full frame

Last year, we had many green herons at Koll fishing. Drew crowds of photographers. This year, I've just seen this one. I was fortunate enough to have it near shore when it went fishing, and got some shots of its success.
Egretta caerulea. Small heron, about 24 inches. Slate blue on the bottom, maroon on the top. Frequents marshes, and swamps. Its found in the southern and eastern costal areas.

A colourful Heron that is easily distinguishable from the others due to its slender body and darker colour. A very shy bird, it favours densely vegetated habitats like reed beds where it hunts for a range of prey including fish, rodents, frogs and insects, either stalking them or standing waiting in ambush. Adult birds, as seen here, have the head and the neck buffish chestnut with dark streaks and lines down either side of the neck. The mantle is brown and the rest of the upper parts and the tail are brownish grey.
It was a good morning with the Green Herons. It was good to meet up with a few other wildlife photographers. Always good to be with like minded friends.
Long bec jaune.

Largest of the North American herons with long legs, a sinuous neck, and thick, dagger-like bill. Head, chest, and wing plumes give a shaggy appearance.
In flight, the Great Blue Heron curls its neck into a tight “S” shape; its wings are broad and rounded and its legs trail well beyond the tail.
Look for Great Blue Herons in saltwater and freshwater habitats, from open coasts, marshes, sloughs, riverbanks, and lakes to backyard goldfish ponds. They also forage in grasslands and agricultural fields. Breeding birds gather in colonies or “heronries” to build stick nests high off the ground.
Wikipedia: The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North America and Central America, as well as the Caribbean and the Galápagos Islands. It is a rare vagrant to coastal Spain, the Azores, and areas of far southern Europe. An all-white population found in south Florida and the Florida Keys is known as the great white heron. Debate exists about whether this represents a white color morph of the great blue heron, a subspecies of it, or an entirely separate species. The status of white individuals known to occur elsewhere in the Caribbean, and very rarely elsewhere in eastern North America, is unclear.
Conservation status: Least Concern
