‘Fruity Fridays!’ Food Coop Volunteers launch free fruit Fridays for children at Taff Housing Association’s Community Food Co-op. Volunteers from various backgrounds come together every Friday, rain or shine, to run a not for profit community food coop. Thanks to the diverse team of volunteers, members of the local community can access low cost fruit and vegetables, purchased in bulk. Volunteers have made friends, developed experience that has helped them secure employment and developed their life skills. Volunteer Amy (far right) loves helping when she is well enough, “Helping at the food coop is the highlight of my week.”

These volunteers give an hour of their time every week to tutor a young person for a period of 10 weeks. This helps them improve their understanding and confidence in that subject, and improve their results in end of year exams. An exciting new project launched to help people over 54 get back into work is already proving a success.

Workways+ Powys offers free, tailored and individual support to help people overcome barriers to getting back into work. This could include mentoring, confidence building, informal help with on-line and traditional job-seeking, interview skills, help with CV writing, sourcing trial work placements, training, or guidance on setting-up in business. The new Highland cattle, grazing on the Oxwich NNR fen restoration area. They've helped restore over 5ha of fen at the reserve over the past three years. The cattle open up areas of the sward providing ideal habitat for wading birds like snipe, which can be seen from the bird hide.

Academic high achievers from Powys, Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot descended on Crickhowell High School to take part in a Seren Event.

The Welsh Government’s Seren project is designed to help more Welsh 6th formers and students get into the UK’s top universities. Delegates heard from representatives of a number of universities and received advice from former Crickhowell pupils who’d finished university.

The Woodland Trust Wales team help build a Forest Schools area, and also have a den-building competition, in Coed y Gopa, as a team building exercise!

Audio newspaper, £451.93. This funding will help in the running of Ammanford Talking News, an audio newspaper for the blind, partially sighted, vulnerable people and general public. It has more than 190 regular listeners, each receiving a free monthly electronic edition. Local police officers use it to help inform vulnerable individuals and others.
