This little pocket wifi gadget helped me connect online here by the beach.

Photographers across the street were busily taking pictures of Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic building while the young lady with the clipboard tried to be of help to the long line (queue for the Brits) of art lovers waiting to enter the Guggenheim Museum on the day of the month that Bank of America customers get in for free.

A friendly helper crew flipped on the brights upon spotting me, allowing me to cheat a bit with this photo. In reality, empties were heading away from the camera, bound for Robinson Run 95.

One of the many volunteers at the local annual fair. One of my first attempts (or rather, one I consider somewhat successful) at candid portraiture. I think that face tells stories.

I have been wanting to try some 'splash' photography for a while now and this week's Macro Monday challenge provided the perfect opportunity as my daily routine starts with a bowl of cereals covered in ice-cold milk!

Technical: I poured milk into a 9-inch square, deep-sided dish to a depth of about 1/2 inch. I poured about a glass of milk into a small sandwich bag and suspended the bag above the dish and then poked a small hole into the sandwich bag to begin the stream of drips. My first attempt at poking a hole was a bit of a disaster as I was a tad over-zealous in the 'poking' and managed to push the pin right through the bag thereby creating a hole on both sides, which was also too large, and resulted in two streams of milk pouring onto the kitchen worktop and making quite a mess; luckily Mrs R was out for the afternoon! My second attempt was more 'delicate' and resulted in a single, smaller hole from which the milk dripped rather than poured. These drips were too fast to start with but slowed to a steady (and predictable) rate after a few moments (set up and camera / flash settings inspired by watching a YouTube video featuring Gavin Hoey - very helpful and saved me LOADS of time in wasted effort!). I had my off-camera flash positioned above the dish and bounced onto a white floor tile erected behind the milk dish to back-light and freeze the motion. The flash was set to 1/16 power. Then it was a case of trial and error with a hit-rate of about 1 in 4 keepers. This one I liked because it filled the frame and had some nice contrast and shapes.

Happy Macro Monday, everyone.

Rocco was feeling especially helpful today by letting me take lots of shots, and actually looking at me a lot of the time.

She used to have her own pretty dresses to wear, now she has to pick from the rag basket. Luckily, the little mice are helpful and friendly.

The art is originally by Edward Gorey and is, I think, very true :) I also love the guy's Cosby sweater and his perplexed/worried glance at the bookends. And why is he carrying a scarf?!

While out walking some tracks in Council Bluffs, IA trying to understand how a grain elevator was spotted, I crossed paths with a switch crew. They stopped to ask what I was doing, and when I explained, they promptly offered to show me what tracks were used for what purpose. I climbed aboard GP7 #1642 and into the elevator tracks we went. The tour was much appreciated! Taken in the spring of 2002.

And another helpful piece of advice, don't forget that there are many more ways than one to photograph anything. Or put another way, don't settle with photographing anything one way. There is really an infinite number of ways to photograph everything. And this seems obvious, but trust me, it is easy to forget. Just look at Multnomah Falls. How many photographers avoid that waterfall because they think it has all been done? The same with the Eiffel Tower. Sure, there are lots of photos out there of both of these and many of these photos tend to look really similar. It is easy to make the first photo one finds and then move on to other things.

Don't do this. Stop. Look around. Keep looking. Move. Look some more. Wait. Then find a second and a third and a fourth different way to photograph your subject. Trust me, the perspectives are out there, it is just a matter of finding them, if you can. And sometimes you cannot. Sometimes you don't have the equipment, or the experience or technical prowess. Sometimes you just don't have the vision. But just because you cannot find those additional ways does not mean they don't exist, which also means that you shouldn't not look for them. Give it a try.

The Bridgetown opening went well tonight. Thank you to all the familiar faces I saw. I appreciate your being there. And surprisingly most of the faces were not familiar at all. About 90% were people I did not know. I like that. I had plenty of good conversations tonight. Always fun to put on a show and get people together.

This by the way is the Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor once again.

Bridgetown continues.

Cats seem to like this time of year, with all of the wrapping paper and ribbons and boxes ^_^ I had laid this paper out to wrap a present, and after I left and came back a while later, Nemo had claimed it and put tears and holes all over it! O_o

went out the other day to shoot a selfie and everything was so muddy from the days and days of rain we've been having that I couldn't find a suitable spot and had to adapt my original concept in order to create something from this outing. I think I can do this better so I may get a model and try again when it dries out a bit. :)

I made another editing video! :D I've had many people approach me about my creative and editing process so I thought making some editing tutorials might be helpful. please check it out kindly subscribe~

the closing reception for my solo exhibition up at Urban Light Studios is tonight so if you're in the area I hope you'll stop by to see it~

Jasper loves my photoshoots because I’m guaranteed to throw his toy in between shots. We’ve done it enough times that he gets excited to see me pick up the camera and tripod.

My assistant, Jasper, managed to get into so many of today’s photos that I gave up. HIs outfit is much cuter, anyway.

Sweater, Urban Outfitters (consignment). Tee, the Limited. Skirt, Forever 21 (thrifted). Tights, Me Moi. Boots, Vince Camuto. Sunglasses, Toms (gift). Belt, thrifted.

Has to help. I was filling up the horse trough and besides watching the water come out of the hose Critter boy here had a go at turning the tap :-)

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Around this time of year, I start regularly raking the woodland paths of leaves, mostly so they don't become a slippery mass come winter. This of course also removes bits of limbs, which are fun to step on when they're encased in ice. *ahem*

Anyhow, I tried to get Grant to make a handsome face, but he was sad about not being allowed to frolic. I took a lot of pictures of Grant with things we did around the farmlet and this face is in most of them, as if we made him do the work.

Elijah wanted to be sure that he was on Santa Paws "Nice List" by helping me unpack a couple of small photo lights and filters. Each time that I took an item out of a bag and put it on the desk he would jump up and grab the bag and take it to the kitchen.

Harvest: Subjects name is Jasper Whitaker. Out of all the subjects in the elemental wing, he looks to be the most promising. Though, the girl with the fiery personality could also be helpful

Nowhere Scientist: Is he worth all the risks though?

Harvest: Oh he is. Let's see what he can do.

JW: Where am I? Last I remember I was walking home from school, and then nothing..

What are you doing? he yells at the glass screen.

The scientist goes over to the control panel, and turns the dial up.

JW: GAHHHHHHHHHHH he screams in agony, as he gets shocked

Scientist: uhh Harvest, nothing's happening...

Harvest: Just wait a second! He says with a snarl.

And something did start to happen. The things binding Jasper to the table came flying off.

Harvest: Yes, yes yes!!! It's working!!! The genetic enhancements are working! He screams with excitement.

" I'll have the army I need soon enough! The culling has already begun, and only the strongest will survive to become my ravagers!" He cackles.

Jasper, now free from the table, looks around the room trying to find a way out.

JW: I need to get out of here.

He aims at the glass screen that the scientist and harvest are looking out of, and shoots a blast of air. It cracks some of the glass.

Scientist: The glass is going to break soon, we should get the ravagers to contain the threat.

All of the sudden, the alarms start to go off.

Harvest: Whats going on?

Soldier: I-it's the titans sir. They are escaping with the legionnaires.

Harvest: WHAT???? Are the ravagers there?!

Soldier: Yes, but it seems as though they are being overpowered by the combined strength of the titans and legionnaires.

Harvest: Send all available troops there to contain them. Make sure that no one else gets out!

The soldier runs off, and Harvest blasts at the scientist in frustration, incinerating him..

Harvest: I guess if I want something done right, I have to do it myself..

The crack in the glass screen begins to grow bigger and bigger. It then shatters

All that can be heard afterwards is Harvest yelling "NOOOOOOOOOO!" which booms and echos through the hallways of the colony.

End of this chapter. I hope you all enjoyed, if you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know, as I am very new to writing stories in general.
