This is a 18-foot by 12-foot nylon flag that I laid out for Capitol. This huge flag is a promotional item for The Beatles HELP! DVD which goes on sale tomorrow (remastered). This flag is going to be hoisted up the Capitol flag pole tomorrow by Ringo Starr. After it's flown for 2 weeks, it's going to be auctioned off on eBay with a certificate of authenticity (signed by Ringo) and deluxe packaging. All the proceeds go to charity. It's a really cool thing. I'm proud of work for investing money in a charity (even though it's great publicity at the same time). Pics from tomorrow's ceremony... tomorrow.

Help support Youth Sports around South Rowan and and surrounding counties by supporting Rick Houston's Golf Club Raffle. Rick lets South's teams practice and play their matches for free on his course. It is a nice course and a first class club house! Wanted to tell you about the reverse raffle we are hosting on Sat Feb 28th. The proceeds are going to South Rowan Golf, but will benefit many other area youth if I may explain. For the past 15 years, WGC has welcomed South's boys and girls teams to practice and play their matches for free. There has never been a charge for any team competing against them either. Salisbury High, West Girls, Catawba Men, Phieffer men, Davidson men, and China Grove Middle have also enjoyed using the facility from time to time for no charge. WGC believes our youth need as many outlets as possible to escape the virtual world they are raised in by exercising and enjoying the environment on a daily basis. Tickets are $100 each and only 200 will be sold. There will be 15 winners with $5k as the grand prize. A dinner will be held before the drawing with HA Thompson as the M.C.

We can certainly use your help! Please mark your calendars for our cleanup of the Historic Bread and Cheese Creek on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Rain or Shine, we clean up the section of Historic Bread and Cheese Creek from the Berkshire Area to North Point Road. Registration will be at 2408 Plainfield Road, Dundalk, MD 21222. This event will be run in conjunction with the Ocean Conservancies annual International Coastal Cleanup and American River’s Nation River Cleanup as well as Reclaim the Bay! We have also attached an event flyer for your use.
We run our cleanups as a family event with plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We welcome every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the cleanup. Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we need people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to help at registration, setup food and snacks as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. We will provide lunch and snacks as well as gloves. A limited number of tools are available for sign-out, but suggest bringing your own if you have them
Volunteers are also needed to arrive early and stay late for setup and break down. Photographers and Videographers also needed!

Twenty-eight-year-old Muhibullah is a tuberculosis (TB) survivor who has become a health worker after being cured of the illness. He has made it his mission to help other patients, and raise awareness among his community about the disease.
Muhibulah stayed in the hospital for the next six months and continued his treatment course until he was cured.
After that, he stayed on at the hospital, not as an under-treatment patient, but as a health worker, helping others.
Muhibullah is now an active member of the TB association and participates in TB intervention programs, raising awareness about the risks of the disease among communities. He earns 8,000 AFN per month.
“I get a very good feeling when I help others because I know what they have been through."
Although tuberculosis is still prevalent in some communities in Afghanistan, it is particularly widespread among internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees returning from neighboring countries, where there are three times as many TB cases than in the general population. What is more, access to TB control services is very limited in these settings, due to high mobility, poverty, and low awareness.
The continued deteriorating security situation in the country has resulted in displacement of an estimated 1.2 million people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance including healthcare. In addition, more than 610,000 Afghan returnees from Pakistan, Iran and other countries were repatriated in 2017 further exasperating the situation. Both of these vulnerable populations represent Key Affected Populations (KAP) for TB control as well as general health service delivery.
To respond to this, the UNDP-managed Global Fund programme, in close coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, implements projects to detect TB cases in the Afghan population, so they can receive the proper treatment. These programmes also aim to protect the rest of the population who are at risk of infection due to poor health and lack of sanitary infrastructure.
