This whole day was special, as we got all dressed up and dined at the very exclusive Gordon Ramsay Steak. There, Alexandra Burke and I both sampled the Hell's Kitchen menu. We were treated like royalty, as the head waiter, maitre d' and sous chef all went out of their way to make our night special. We finished the night off with seeing Penn & Teller, and then meeting the celebrities after the show.
Ingredients for Nalgiri (From Wiki: Iyengar Usage: negizh (naLigiri)நெகிழ் (நளிகிரி); Popular usage:குழம்பு; Meaning: Sambaar).
To prepare the powder, roast with a little oil and grind -
2 tbs coriander seeds
1 tbs channa dal
1 tsp fenugreek seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp pepper corns
5-6 red chillies
1/2 tsp asofotida
5-6 curry leaves
I was later told that adding some dry coconut before grinding will taste better.

View from my old Apartment in NYC. I handed in my keys yesterday. I have not lived in NYC for awhile, so it was time to let it go. I have a lot of good memories from the period when I lived there. It was an exciting time in my lfe. I finished grad school, got into stand up comedy, got married, and ran a technology education program for high school kids during those years. I also spent a lot of time looking out the window at this unobstructed view of midtown.
I worked off and on at the school just behind the tree. On this last visit back to the neighborhood, I saw a few kids who I taught when they were little. They're in high school now. It was good to be in the old place, but I have to say, now that I'm out, I feel a sense of relief. I didn't realize what a psychic strain it was to maintain it from a distance.

The Northrop T-38 Talon is a two-seat, twin-engined supersonic jet trainer. The world's first and most produced supersonic trainer, it is used by the United States Air Force (USAF), NASA, US Naval Test pilot School, and other by other NATO nations.

Hell's Kitchen
Alice's Garden is dedicated to the memory of Alice Parsekian who cared from the garden until her death in 2010. Alice was born to Armenian parents, emigrated to Turkey, then the Bronx and later the Webster Women's Residence on West 34th Street. She became a community legend as a gardener and caretaker of public space in the neighborhood.
The garden is located on West 34th Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues and is a secret, beautiful oasis.
In 2011 the garden was revitalization through a joint venture between the Hell's Kitchen Neighborhood Association, Clinton Housing Development Company, Manhattan Community Board 4 and the Port Authority of NY & NJ.
Alice's Garden opened to key holders in the fall of 2013 and is cared for by a group of community gardeners. Alice's is both a community garden with plot holders as well as a community park for neighbors of all ages.

... yeah, you guessed it right. I made it :-). As they say, self cooked food (swayam paakam) always tastes the best! I made sambar a few times, but this is the best I ever made.

Inspired a few flickr friends of mine, who happen to be good cooks, I immediately grabbed my camera and took a few snaps with the 50mm f/1.8.
Coming to the photography part of it, I don't think the compositions and lighting have been the best, but I did work under constraints. (I used a table lamp for lighting and don't have pretty bowls :-)). But the most annoying part is when I import RAW images (esp. when taken under artificial light) into Adobe LightRoom, the colors are completely screwed up! It freaks me out and any amount of correction in tone curves or hues does not restore the original colors. I had to convert the RAWs into JPEGs first using the Canon ZoomBrowser and then use those JPEGs to crop. Any similar experiences?
