As pointed out by some friends with wandering eyes, these mannequins are extremely well endowed. What is this, Hanlon's Point? Wreck Beach? There are innocent eyes here, you nudies!

Hell's Kitchen Flea Market

This whole day was special, as we got all dressed up and dined at the very exclusive Gordon Ramsay Steak. There, Alexandra Burke and I both sampled the Hell's Kitchen menu. We were treated like royalty, as the head waiter, maitre d' and sous chef all went out of their way to make our night special. We finished the night off with seeing Penn & Teller, and then meeting the celebrities after the show.

The USS Intrepid's four propellers moved the ship through the seas with a maximum speed approacing 32 knots--slightly more than 37 mph. The ship's power plant could generate close to 150,000 horsepower. Four steam turbines driven by eight boilers turned the four propeller shafts. Each bronze propeller weighs approximately 27,000 pounds or roughly the equivalent of ten automobiles.

In November 2006, when a team of tugboats first attempted to tow Intrepid away from Pier 86 for repair work, she would not budge. Her propellers were lodged in the mud at the bottom of the Hudson River. After emergency dredging, tugboats managed to pull Intrepid free a month later. All four of Intrepid's propellers were removed when she was dry-docked in 2007.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at pier 86 at 46th Street, was originally founded in 1982 with the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid as its centerpiece. In addition to the USS Intrepid, the museum showcases the submarine USS Growler, a Concorde SST, a Lockheed A-12 supersonic reconnaissance plane, and the Space Shuttle Enterprise as well as numerous other aircrafts and the Exploreum, an interactive hall for children.

The USS Intrepid (CV/CVA/CVS-11), an Essex-class aircraft carrier converted into a museum ship. Also known as The Fighting "I", it was commissioned in 1943 for the United States Navy and participated in several campaigns in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, most notably the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Decommissioned shortly after the end of the war, she was modernized and recommissioned in the early 1950s as an attack carrier (CVA), and then eventually became an antisubmarine carrier (CVS), serving primarily n the Atlantic, but also ein the Vietnam War. Her notable achievements include being the recovery ship for a Mercury and a Gemini space mission. Decommissioned in 1974, the Intrepid became the foundation of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in 1982.

The iconic dive bar, the Holland Bar on Ninth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen has sadly permanently closed its doors. Holland Bar was known for its cheap beers 🍻, dollar-bill 💵 lined bar (swipe left for 2nd photo of its old neon sign which was moved inside and held the cremated remains of a former bar patron). This bar certainly will be missed by many and even the late Anthony Bourdain who visited the bar called it a “classic old-man bar…. You know, the kind of place it’s okay to drink during the day.”

The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. The F-16 reaches a max altitude of 55,000 feet and a speed of 1,320 mph. Over 4,500 aircraft used by 27 air forces worldwide have been built since production was approved in 1976. In 1991, this F-16A was deployed by the New York National Guard to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Storm. It is on loan from the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

a pair of shots from the Ninth Avenue International Food Festival last weekend in NYC. Must have been 25 blocks of food vendors up and down the avenue. A big visual hit were these occasional teepees of meat slabs roasting away over charcoal. It's South American-style churrasco that has Portuguese roots.

Wikipedia says:

"In Argentina, Uruguay and in the South of Brazil a churrasco refers to any boneless cut of beef that is sliced slightly thin as a steak and grilled over hot coals or on a very hot skillet.

In Guatemala, churrasco is regarded as a typical dish, often eaten in familiar gatherings and festive occasions.

In Puerto Rico, churrasco is skirt steak, which is grilled or stewed with peppers and onions and frequently treated with adobo, a garlic and salt containing spice mix."

I though this Chrysler 300M limo was pretty sweet.

Yesterday was the annual 9th Avenue Food Festival. The streets of New York City was filled with food ranging from Asian, Carribean, Italian and lots more. One of the best things I saw and miss is the "lechon" or sucking pig slowly roasted over hot coals.

The Festival ran along 9th Avenue from 57th Street all the way down to 42nd street, and the weather was just amazing. The great food and perfect weather was the perfect combination all New Yorkers have been longing for in quite a while.
