"[The] ceiling and the supporting architecture was painted by Verrio and illustrates the entrance to Hell as a cat's mouth. The figurative scheme on the walls were added by Thomas Stothard (1755-1834) at the beginning of the 19th century" - info from the Burghley House mini guide.

"Burghley House is a grand sixteenth-century English country house near Stamford, Lincolnshire. It is a leading example of the Elizabethan prodigy house, built and still lived in by the Cecil family. The exterior largely retains its Elizabethan appearance, but most of the interiors date from remodellings before 1800. The house is open to the public and displays a circuit of grand and richly furnished state apartments. Its park was laid out by Capability Brown.

The house is on the boundary of the civil parishes of Barnack and St Martin's Without in the Peterborough unitary authority of Cambridgeshire. It was formerly part of the Soke of Peterborough, an historic area that was traditionally associated with Northamptonshire. It lies 0.9 miles (1.4 km) south of Stamford and 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Peterborough city centre.

The house is now run by the Burghley House Preservation Trust, which is controlled by the Cecil family.

Burghley was built for Sir William Cecil, later 1st Baron Burghley, who was Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I of England, between 1555 and 1587, and modelled on the privy lodgings of Richmond Palace. It was subsequently the residence of his descendants, the Earls, and since 1801, the Marquesses of Exeter. Since 1961, it has been owned by a charitable trust established by the family.

Lady Victoria Leatham, antiques expert and television personality, followed her father, Olympic gold-medal winning athlete, IAAF President and MP, David Cecil, the 6th Marquess, by running the house from 1982 to 2007. The Olympic corridor commemorates her father. Her daughter, Miranda Rock, is now the most active live-in trustee. However, the Marquessate passed it in 1988 to Victoria's uncle, Martin Cecil, 7th Marquess of Exeter, and then to his son, William Michael Anthony Cecil, both Canadian ranchers on land originally bought by the 5th Marquess, who have not lived at Burghley.

The house is one of the main examples of stonemasonry and proportion in sixteenth-century English Elizabethan architecture, reflecting the prominence of its founder, and the lucrative wool trade of the Cecil estates. It has a suite of rooms remodelled in the baroque style, with carvings by Grinling Gibbons. The main part of the house has 35 major rooms, on the ground and first floors. There are more than 80 lesser rooms and numerous halls, corridors, bathrooms, and service areas.

In the seventeenth century, the open loggias around the ground floor were enclosed. Although the house was built in the floor plan shape of the Letter E, in honour of Queen Elizabeth, it is now missing its north-west wing. During the period of the 9th Earl's ownership, and under the guidance of the famous landscape architect, Capability Brown, the south front was raised to alter the roof line, and the north-west wing was demolished to allow better views of the new parkland. A chimney-piece after the design of Venetian printmaker Giovanni Battista Piranesi was also added during his tenure.

The so-called "Hell Staircase" and its neighbour "The Heaven Room" has substantial ceiling paintings by Antonio Verrio, between 1697 and 1699. The walls to the "Hell Staircase" are by Thomas Stothard, who completed the work about a century later. The Bow Room is decorated with wall and ceiling paintings by Louis Laguerre." - info from Wikipedia.

Summer 2019 I did a solo cycling tour across Europe through 12 countries over the course of 3 months. I began my adventure in Edinburgh, Scotland and finished in Florence, Italy cycling 8,816 km. During my trip I took 47,000 photos.

The beer menu at Hell Hunt in Tallinn, Estonia, during my visit in June 2013.

Most of the 14 beers on tap were from industrial breweries, such as Saku, Pilsner Urquell, Hoegaarden, Leffe and Guinness, but they did have a few draft beers from smaller producers:

- Hell Hunt Hele (4.6% pale lager)

- Hell Hunt Tume (5% dark lager)

- Sillamäe München Vaskne (6.3% Vienna lager)

- Thornbridge Jaipur (5.9% ipa)

The Hell Hunt house beers are brewed at Viru Õlu in Haljala, Estonia.

I always walk down E. 3rd st. and this is the first time I've seen any Hells Angels outside.

I was wondering if they were good neighbors, and someone wrote on NYC's City Noise, "Safe neighborhood, courteous meth dealers, what more could a New Yorker want?"

Well I wish they were my neighbors - regardless if they are a combo of charitable fuzzy thug meth-dealers soft bears protectors-of-neighborhoods archivers-of-motocycle-culture lovers drinkers.

I love that on their website it says "HELLS ANGELS and the DEATHHHEAD LOGO ® are trademarks owned by Hells Angels Motorcycle Corporation, registered in the United States and various other countries. Should we find you using any of these we will hunt you down and hurt you."

...Hell...Been there, done that.

South of Lake Naivasha, there lies Hell's Gate National Park, which was once a lake that fed our prehistoric ancestors. [13] Being a not particularly popular tourist attraction, it gives you the opportunity to peacefully and quietly ride a bike among zebras, giraffes, warthogs, and others, rather than fry in the uncomfortable trap of a safari van.

The setting of Lion King was modelled after this place [13].

I can honestly say that in July 2002 I went through Hell.

Its a small station in Norway. The train I was on was the infrequent international service from Storlien (just about in Sweden) to Trondheim.

Despite allegations to the contrary you can clearly see that Hell is above sea level (though not by much).

On a ridge overlooking the Patapsco River and adjacent to the Ilchester Paper Mill sits the ruins of St. Mary’s College. The former religious school, which opened in the 1890s, prepared hundreds of young men for the seminary until it was eventually moved to a nearby facility in the 1950s. The remaining structures were abandoned, and what little remains continues to be reclaimed by the forest.

The 17th Annual Holiday Train Show, on display in the New York Botanical Garden's Enid A. Haupt Conservatory from November 23, 2007 to January 13, 2007, presents a winter wonderland twinkling lights and sixteen model trains, including the Union Pacific, New York Central, and Great Northern Railway, zipping along over bridges and on 1,000 feet of winding tracks past scaled replicas of New York landmarks made by award-winning designer Paul Busse and his team of landscape designers and botanical architects at Applied Imagination in Alexandria, Lentucky. Orange slices, cinnamon sticks, poppy pods, pine cones, twigs and other plant parts make a festive brew as the materials used to create the more than 140 architectural reproductions. Returning favorites like the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, Yankee Stadium, and St. Patrick's Cathedral were joined by 2007's new additions--Ellis Island and the George Washington Bridge.

The Hell Gate Bridge originally the New York Connecting Railroad Bridge or The East River Arch Bridge, spans 1,107-feet over a narrow tidal strait in the East River known as Hell Gate, connecting Astoria and Randalls and Wards Island. The railroad bridge, completed on September 30, 1916, was the world's longest steel arch bridge until the Bayonne Bridge was opened in 1932.

The New York Botanical Garden, spanning some 250 acres of Bronx Park, was founded in 1891 on part of the grounds of the Belmont Estate, formerly owned by the tobacco magnate Pierre Lorillard, after a fund-raising campaign led by Columbia University botanist Nathaniel Lord Britton, who was inspired to emulate the Royal Botanic Gardens in London. It contains 48 different gardens and plant collections.

FOR SALE

From the ReStore in Lawrence, KS - and as I have now developed a "thing" for wooden handled hammers the last few years - it came home with me

Markings are a bit hard to see - but you do have several images to chose from. Logo in form of

- HELLER (HORSE) Made in USA -

with the Made in USA in smaller letters and USA under "Made in". Horse logo totally obscured by a rusty patch

Going all in on this - puller the head, now soaking in veneffr. Will prime/paint. Handle has some splits - glued in some 1/4" dowels and hope to stabilize. Will sand and probably seal. Did not get a look at bottom of handle yet to see if there is a weight mark

Wedge is an "S" shape and will be reset, I filed off about 1/4 -3/8" of the top of the handle to get some newer wood involved.
