Hedge Brown butterfly.

Sorry not as sharp as I hoped.

Rietzanger - Male Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus)

I thought this was a Small Heath when I took the shot, but it seems to be a very small Gatekeeper

The scourge of many a gardener, however, quite photogenic. I have only just noticed that the flower heads appear to be "perforated."

The Dark Hedges is an avenue of large mature beech trees, which were planted around 1775. About 90 of the original 150 trees are still surviving.

The iconic trees have been used as a filming location in HBO's epic series Game of Thrones®, representing the King's Road. It is the most photographed location in Northern Ireland.

♥ Thank you very much for your visits, faves, and kind comments ♥

I've been using the rainy afternoon to catch up on a lot of admin and also processing a few summer shots I hadn't looked at yet.

Most of you will of course know exactly where this is - the famous Dark Hedges. It's not exactly an original composition and it's one I've done a few times before - but the light at 4am on this particular summer morning was nice! So I thought I'd upload it.

The shy dunnock can be seen hopping about under hedges as its other name, 'hedge sparrow', suggests. It inhabits gardens, woodlands, hedgerows and parks The dunnock is a small bird, about the size of a robin, which is common in gardens, parks, hedgerows, scrub and along woodland edges. Dunnocks are shy birds, hopping about in low vegetation and around the edge of lawns, feeding on small insects, worms and seeds.

Our hedge covered with snow

A weathered old cedar tree, growing on the edge of a 110 foot-tall bluff overlooking the Buffalo National River.

If hedges are neglected, they grow into close rows of trees, like here.

Still very green. (I must remember to go back soon.)

I like that curl in the road up there.

I don't think a double decker bus could get through here?

(Overgown? Anyone get it?)

A wild and native member of the Morning-Glory family photographed in the La Crosse River Marsh. It's living up to its "bindweed" name as the plant even circled back to wrap itself around another nearby plant twice.

I do these every May. We have a south-facing section of Beech in a hedge in our Staffordshire garden. Lots of invertebrates are attracted to the newly-opened leaves. It's a good way to demonstrate garden biodiversity. This is just a random selection of some of the visitors that I managed to photograph.

A very short hike in from busy I-5 interstate. Some nice big Doug-Firs down there.

Decided to get down on the ground for this shot. The only problem with shooting Hedge Balls on a windy day is keeping an eye out for one's that are falling!! LOL!

An oddly sculptured hedge in California. Red is watching traffic:)

A hedge, around a commercial parking lot. This plant is often called "burning bush," and for good reason.

Thanks for looking! Isn't God a great artist?

Jackson's Chameleon - Trioceros jacksonii

We intentionally chose to stay on the outskirts of Nairobi in the hope the greener area may throw up some interesting visitors. Needless to say, it worked.

I found this wild Jackson's chameleon sauntering through the hedges surrounding our hotel. These lizards are truly fascinating to watch. The rotating turret eyes, clamping feet and skin, which has to be one of the most famous features in the animal kingdom, make an encounter a truly memorable occasion.

What's even better is they seem to be quite common.

* As a side note, this particular male (3 horns) seems to have a bent middle horn. It's not obvious why, but it could be from a number of possible causes including a high fall, animal run-in, male-to-male battling or something else completely.

Bright green hedge lining the driveway to the Adelaide Pavilion on South Terrace.

Wales has had a few weeks snow, some areas worse than others, we only had a dusting here but enough to make life a little inconvenient, but it did make everywhere look so beautiful.
