Serious headphone listening requires a headphone amp because just like speakers (but on a much smaller scale), headphones require power to move air and create sound. A good headphone amp isn't about making your music louder (though it does that too), rather, it is about providing enough juice to drive your headphones well.
Hybrid tube amplifier consisting on a 12AU7 driver vacuum tube, and MOSFET IRF630 for the solid state part.

After my second Xbox broke down, I realized it was time to get a new hobby. So I sold the broken console and some of my games and got this sound system.
The headphone amplifier is a Little Dot I+, which is a hybrid transistor-vacuum tube amplifier done by some great guys in China. The headphone is an AKG K701.
The tubes still need some burn in time (100-200 hours), but listening to AC/DC's Back in Black on this is indeed an unique experience; other memorable experiences so far were Beethoven's 9th and his Eight played by Osesp.

this is my first step; stuffing the resistors and low profile parts.
this, alone, took at least 2 or 3 hours, which includes locating the parts (!), soldering both sides of the board, fluxing and inspecting the work frequently.
as usual, I'm short a few parts so the build won't be finished for at least a few more days ;)
note, those vishay tiny purple resistors are about 29 cents each in small quantities. I should have bought stock in vishay ;)
