Shot from the Zuiderhaven towards t Havenmansje, Harns 1 Bib Michelin restaurant - when you vist Harns, go there, it's excellent.
This is number 6 of the Harns/Harlingen album and 35 of Naar het Noorden.
Nice to be back on Flickr after an extended break.
This was taken during our recent trip to Florida shortly after hurricanes Helene and Milton caused so much devastation along the Gulf Coast and inland. Many of our favourite places were closed but we still had a great time. It also felt good to be able to support, even in a small way, some of the local businesses that had reopened and were trying so hard to get back on their feet.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.
Europe, The Netherlands, Friesland, Harns/Harlingen, Nieuwe Willemshaven, Lightship 8 (cut from L & B)
The lightship Jenni Baynton (aka Light vessel 8) was built in 1949 in the UK. The ship was used as a discotheque 'Barocca' in Rotterdam throughout the nineties. Tighter municipal regulations put an end to that. The ship was stored in Waalhaven and thoroughly trashed by junks and vagrants. It was transported to Harlingen and renovated /transformed into a radio ship - between 2005 and 2015, 'Radio Waddenzee' was transmitted from the ship.
This is number 3 of the Harns/Harlingen album and 32 of Naar het Noorden.
Europe, The Netherlands, Friesland, Harns/Harlingen, Zuiderhaven, Façades (slightly cut from T)
Shot on one of the delightful streets of Harlingen with its old ( dating back to the 18th century) and sometimes leaning facades.
This is number 4 of the Harns/Harlingen album and 33 of Naar het Noorden.
Europe, The Netherlands, Friesland, Harns/Harlingen, Station Harlingen, Arriva Wink train (uncut)
There isn't a nuclear energy generator hiding in this train, although the big Arriva corporate logo does seem to suggest this ;-)
But power ís being generated in this middle part of the Arriva Wink (Wandelbarer, Innovative Nahverkehrs-Kurzzug) hybrid multiple unit - by 2 Deutz TCD 16.0 V8 bio-diesel engines.
They drive the generators that deliver energy to the large battery packs of this electrically propelled train.
This is number 21 of the Harns/Harlingen album and 55 of Naar het Noorden.
Europe, The Netherlands, Friesland, Harns/Harlingen, Station Harlingen Haven, Arriva train (uncut)
The train is a Stadler WINK (Wandelbarer, Innovativer Nahverkehrs-Kurzzug), a hybrid multiple unit. Its traction is electric, fed by batteries. The 2 onboard Deutz TCD 16.0 V8 diesel engines can charge these batteries. The train's pantograph also allows for this.
Its name, 'Noar hoes' (Back home), and that of the other Frisian and Groningen Arriva trains, are the result of a naming contest. 3000 people participated.
Shot with the Lumix LX7, set to 16:9 aspect ratio and in 3>1 HDR mode, with the tiltable LVF2 electronic viewfinder mounted.
This is for now the last one and number 8 of the Harns/Harlingen album and 37 of Naar het Noorden.
Europe, The Netherlands, Friesland, Harns/Harlingen, Nieuwe Willemshaven Brouwdok (cut from B&T)
A return to the Harlingen portfolio.
Brouwdok is an artisan brewery with a brasserie. It's delightfully eclectic with all kinds of beer brewing and maritime artefacts. Like the whale on the right, made of corks.
Shot on the upper floor. The assortment of beers: (of course many IPA's and Lagers) is great.
This is number 9 of the Harns/Harlingen album and 39 of Naar het Noorden.
