Description of work : The Turku Main Library is a complex consisting of the old governor's residency (rebuilt after 1827, now a cafe and meeting rooms) and the old (also known as the Bibliotheca) and new library buildings. All the buildings are linked by the glass-walled periodicals reading room and are arranged around an open courtyard within which is the cafe. A lack of interior dividing walls allows the interior design to be flexible and accommodate future changes in needs. The roof is supported by thin concrete columns that complements the openness achieved by the exuberant use of glass. This transparent quality is meant to connect patrons with the surrounding buildings and make the main room feel more like an open town square rather than an interior space. The new library building never rises above the old - the main objective was to harmonize the historical setting with the architecture of the present. The use of red brick was avoided in favor of maintaining the uniqueness of the old Bibliotheca, but the facades of the new building were plastered to connect it with other old buildings on the block. Natural stone was employed in the new facades, stairs, and courtyard, oak features prominently in the interior of the new building, and contemporary art is displayed in installations throughout the complex. The Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara bear exceptional witness to the evolution of Japanese architecture and art and vividly illustrate a critical period in the cultural and political development of Japan, when Nara functioned as its capital from 710 to 784. During this period, the framework of national government was consolidated and Nara enjoyed great prosperity, emerging as the fountainhead of Japanese culture.

Located in the modern city of Nara, the property includes eight component parts composed of seventy-eight different buildings covering 617.0 ha, which is surrounded by a buffer zone (1,962.5 ha) and the “historic environment harmonization area (539.0 ha)”.

A unique project—Jacob Collier’s first-ever college residency—brought together the MIT Festival Jazz Ensemble, MIT’s Ben Bloomberg and other members of the MIT music community.

Collier’s music combines elements of jazz, a cappella, world, contemporary classical, pop, gospel, R&B and soul. He is well known for his viral YouTube videos, which have turned numerous legendary artists into fans, including Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, David Crosby, Jamie Cullum, Take 6 and Quincy Jones—now his manager/mentor.

In 2014, he began working with MIT’s Ben Bloomberg (a graduate student at the MIT Media Lab) who helped transform Collier’s video productions into live one-man-show performances. Bloomberg also designed and created a custom unique Vocal Harmonizer, which has provided Collier a vehicle to simultaneously combine his vocal and keyboard talents live.

Collier’s December residency at MIT—culminating with a major concert in Kresge Auditorium on December 10—involved several first-time elements. Collier and the MIT Festival Jazz Ensemble (FJE) with additional musicians presented the premiere of an experimental piece crafted by Collier. Several new big band arrangements of Collier’s music were also featured, two of which crafted by MIT alumnus Jamshied Sharifi and one by Collier himself. The concert included Collier performing some jazz standards with the FJE as well as some solo performances.

Efficient Content Strategy (WCS) is a guarantee to produce findable and legible contents, but also efficient: hyperlinks do their job, pdfs are downloadable, forms are usable. A goog content strategy determines user experience and promotes reassurance ; it also enhances and harmonizes the workflows.

In the U.S., OSHA is expected to revise its hazard communication standard to incorporate many elements of the U.N. Globally Harmonized System (GHS) regulation. These revisions will eliminate the sometimes confusing current classification, which uses a mix of different colors, numbers and wording. The GHS pictograms are simplified and can be recognized globally.

Marriage Power

Marriage only works out if the couple harmonizes together. Male as a power and female as a light, the two support each other and make the shine. The rings are ineffective when they are separate; they need to be together to light up. (Rapid Prototyping Plastic, Sterling Silver, 2 Batteries, 1 LED Light)
