Another in my series of montage portraits. This one with Harm Tido on stilts...

It was more difficult due to him having to move back and forth a bit to actually stay up, but I think it still worked out.

No beavers were harmed during the making of this image.

Actually, no beavers were even present.

I am not sure how long ago this tree was felled by the beavers, but there is no visible signs of a tree or dam along the Virgin River in Zion National Park...I believe it is OLD!!

do no harm

it's harder than

it sounds

to be holy

and harmless

in love

some of the most brilliant minds have been criminal

some of the most simple

have been harmless

as doves

because being a rose

in a world of thorns

has less to do with

what you know

and more to do

with a heart

of gold

Before she sang her last song "Washington" she said she's planning a trip back there this November, after Barack Obama is re-elected and back in the White House. I like her even more, now.

Here she was just waiting in the wings to be introduced.

The wild animal I interact with most often is a porcupine, and it's easy to explain why. They're just as disinterested in seeing me as most creatures, but their natural defence makes for a more relaxed reaction when I come stomping around. Sure, every porky I encounter will inevitably climb a tree to escape, but I appreciate those extra moments to get close and claim I mean no harm – while thirty thousand raised quills all point and call me a liar. While I could only claim most close-up sightings of wildlife in the single digits, I've long lost count of the porcupines I've failed to befriend. It's kind of a mirror of how I appreciate most humans. Passing moments, perhaps distrustful, but aiming at a sort of mutual understanding. The connection doesn't have to be lasting – only instinctual, and genuine for as long as it endures.
