I spotted these boots in the back of tradies truck and just had to grab a quick snap. I love the story of good hard honest work that they tell - Happy Toil Tuesday 😄
This dude had no hover and not tell as to when it was going to take off so I consider it one of the hardest to get a decent flight shot ( I will try again though 😂😂)

Even with these remnants of the logging industry from the 1800's, its hard to imagine that two man teams would cut up to 100 trees per day over the winter months. With multiple teams, there wouldn't have been much forest left standing at that rate. It wasn't easy on the men either - they would consume up to 7000 calories per day. The bigger men could lose 30-40 lbs of weight over the winter cutting season. Thank goodness for environmentalists and conservation efforts.
After many hard winters, this is all that's left of an old hunting and whaling cabin, Danmark Ø, Scoresby Sund, East Greenland.

There has been one to two feet of snow in the Dales, much of which has melted. Still snow showers in the West today

Being rocks, they were stubborn and hard
It wasn’t their style to drop their guard
They stood there for years along
With a sense that something was wrong
No words were ever said,
Not even a gesture made
They had to ‘bridge’ this communication gap
But how? no one could wear a thinking cap
Finally,
One of them was somewhat brave.
He looked up and agreed to ‘wave'
Love is…
Messy, when in the human form
Hard, when it feels like a tug-of-war
Deep, when the connection is genuine and on a soul level
Freeing, when given without requirement or expectation
Strong, when it endures seasons of change
Safe, when it is something to come home to
Joyful, when it is exciting and new
Humbling, when given generously to others
Gut-wrenching, when torn from your arms
Disappointing, when it falls short of your hopes
Reliable, when it remains steady through life’s ups and downs
Beautiful, when it embraces your imperfections
Real, when it stands by your side
A Wheeling 732 with 3 engines and over 100 stone loads is working hard as they come into Sycamore, OH on a beautiful November day. 11/5/2023
It's hard to believe that I haven't posted this one yet, but that might be due to the fact that the Batten Kill has become quite overrun in recent years and, therefore, I haven't seen a need to post my shots shortly after taking them.
In 2021 and 2022, Raven Rail-owned Alco S-2 #3021 called the Batten Kill home. The engine hadn't seen use since its days on the Saratoga & North Creek, and my railroad boss Hal Raven had it moved to Shushan, NY on the Batten Kill where he could more easily work on it. On a few, rare occasions, it made some "shakedown runs," and -- thankfully -- I was able to catch a couple of them. This one from August 4, 2021 saw the 3021 leading a northbound train of inbound loads from Eagle Bridge to Greenwich Junction. In a classic Shushan scene including a diamond-shaped crossing and laundry hanging out on the line, the 3021 looks right at home on the former D&H Washington Branch (although I'll admit I don't think the D&H switchers ever ran over this portion -- I think they were confined to the G&J).
By 2023 or so, the 3021 moved over the Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson. It's one of my favorite engines to ride in between the seats, the smooth ride, the view, and the turbocharger sound. However, it's been terrible when trying to cut the air into a train -- often dumping if you as much as sneeze on the anglecock. The engine itself is essentially a kicker, and it takes forever to charge a train. For now, we're not really using the engine as it's waiting on a new cylinder.
Considering we've got two (soon to be three) original D&H RS-3s on the SC&H -- along with the fact that this S-2 isn't original D&H -- I'd personally love to see this engine get repainted into FJ&G orange, yellow, and black and renumbered 21. That might take a heck of a lot of arm twisting, though -- as well as volunteer hours. I'm curious what any of you think of the idea, but the FJ&G paint scheme is currently only preserved on model railroads...

As always, my ideas are harder to bring to reality than I think they should be. I wanted the dinosaurs to be hanging out their sheets to dry and have their shadows on the sheets but the wind was too strong and the sheet kept blowing up. Dead camera battery, falling sheet, moving sun, it was just all a bit silly and frustrating. I remember the idea from someone I follow but can't remember who it is. When I figure it out I'll give them the credit.
I just wanted to let you all know that my computer time is limited these days as life is just taking over ;) For awhile, I will only be able to visit those of you that visit me rather than going through my entire contact list as I usually do. Those of you who visit here everyday anyway will probably not notice any difference anyway. Once I have visited everyone who has visited me I will do my best to still get to my contact list :)
Have a wonderful Friday everyone!!

The North Uist beaches are so stunning that it's hard to get a new take on them. I started getting fascinated by drainage channels in the sand, and when I looked at this one, the likeness to trees and a river flowing from them seemed really obvious. I later thought they also looked like volcanoes erupting, with the melting flow running down to the sea. Either way, Misery is the river of the world by Tom Waits is perfect.
I should probably say, I've rotated the photo round so the trees stand up :)

The Harder Kulm is Interlaken's "local mountain" and actually not a mountain at all, but a prominent vantage point of the western Harder, and is located directly north of the spa and congress location. It belongs to the Emmental Alps and is located at an altitude of 1321 m. Wikipedia

One of the "newest" motors in the fleet, CP 7015 [classified as
SD70ACU] dons Canadian Pacific heritage paint. It was put in service on a whim the other day when one of the F units took a dump en route to KC. Although I was wanting a solid set of Fs, it's hard to argue against the stunning look of this remodeled junker. It's a welcomed diversion from the standard, dirty beaver look that I'm used to around here.
