it settles upon you when you least expect it.

Today is art day for me. This shot was taken by my mother at one of our outings to some Florida attraction when I was four years old. The photo, like many of the old family photos wasn't very good, but Mom, like most mothers, didn't care so much about the scenery as she did capturing her little girl's delight in seeing flamingos! She did a good job catching the expression of glee on my face, and I wanted to do something more artistic with it.

There's no way I can even begin to describe how I arrived at the finished product! This labor of love took about two hours and was at times very aggravating, and at other times, very satisfying. I love the particular texture I used and have used this one before. It always gives an unusual and fun effect. It seemed perfect for a child's portrait. So, today you can see a shot of me taken recently, and one taken more than 58 years earlier. Life goes by fast. Mom is gone now, but the memories and the joy she made sure I found in the little moments like this that we had remains.

This is the D-Tower, a project of the artist Q. Serafijn and architect Lars Spuybroek. The people of the town Doetinchem can participate too. This tower can change color and the mood of the participants decide which color it will be. Yellow = fear, green = hatred, red = love, ofcourse, and blue = happiness.

May happiness with everybody in the new year!

Singing up above me in the tree, not easy pointing the lens at 600mm upwards and holding it steady , but this was the shot in my head when I took it :0)

[...] Happiness is a warm puppy [...]

-- Quote by Charles M. Schultz, Linus in "Peanuts"

Rome, Italy (October, 2007)

Happiness rarely arrives by reason. It does not answer when called.

Sometimes, it simply appears — in a brief moment of laughter, before we even ask why.

It doesn’t promise clarity or permanence. Yet in that fragile instant, it proves one simple truth:

we are still alive, still capable of breathing without explanation.

In honor of Lelya, keeper of love — for all fragile moments that choose us.

So it's my friend, Kate's birthday today. How ironic I'm posting a picture of her here . Nope I had not planned for this. Obviously I haven't really been shooting lately as I'm still working on my images from last month's shoot. I stumbled on this one. Also I gifted her a canvas print of her portrait which she thought was utterly thoughtful. She loved it so much that it brought tears in her eyes haha !

It is times like this when you realise sometimes it is the smallest things like these that bring happiness . AAHHHHH !! :) Definitely doing this for everyone from now on hehe !!

Happiness is... being able to focus on the best moments of each day.

Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.
