This particular dead tree in the Heathdale - Glen Orden Wetlands is a popular spot for the birds to rest a bit while scanning for food. It was very windy that day so this Black-shouldered Kite was hanging on tight.

There's a tradition among hindu people to tie a piece of stone in a colored string and hang it in front of the temple as a mark of their WISH.
I really do not know the significance...but elder people say that it is a form of prayer that will always make god remember that one of her devotee is in trouble.
I carefully planned this shoot, arriving early to Four Mile Creek so there would be a mist on the water and the fall foliage although past peak would still be an attractive backdrop for the Herons. Somehow the Herons got mixed up on the dates and times and were a no show. Standing on a muddy path alongside the creek under a canopy of trees holding my longest lens my options were limited. I really did not see any good shots, but I started viewing the trees above me through the lens very slowly and carefully similar to a sniper looking through his scope. I left with over 30 images that I probably would never have seen if the Herons had been there as scheduled.
I took this shot last week but there are still some leaves hanging on out there, especially on the beech trees. These cherry tree leaves have now gone.
Is this supposed to be a warning to the parents that let their little kids scare/chase the local wildlife?

This impressive, intimidating robber fly has been hanging around our pollinator garden, no doubt waiting for small flies and bees to come to the flowers so it can snatch a mid-air meal. These guys are large, and though they may look frightening, they pose no threat to humans.
