Holi (Hindi: होली, Nepali: होली, Punjabi: ਹੋਲੀ Sindhi: هولي) is a religious spring festival celebrated by Hindus as a festival of colours.

It is primarily observed in India and Nepal. It is also observed by the minority Hindus in Bangladesh and Pakistan as well in countries with large Indic diaspora populations following Hinduism, such as Suriname, Malaysia, Guyana, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, the United States, Mauritius, and Fiji.

Holi is also known as Phagwah (Assamese: ফাকুৱা), Festival of Colours, or Doḷajātra (Oriya: ଦୋଳଯାତ୍ରା) in Odisha, and as Dol Jatra (Bengali: দোলযাত্রা) or Basantotsav ("spring festival") (Bengali: বসন্তোৎসব) in West Bengal and Assam.

Holi is of particular significance in the Braj region, which includes locations traditionally connected to the Lord Krishna: Mathura, Vrindavan, Nandagaon, and Barsana, which become tourist destinations during the season of Holi.[1]

As per the Hindu calendar, Holi is celebrated on the Phalguna Purnima which comes in February or March in the Gregorian Calendar.

Autumn is the end of the Summer and the beginning of the Winter. Love this season, love its colours and I know it will soon be Spring and Summer again...

Location: Flevopark, Amsterdam East. In a corner of an abandonde children's playground.

Coordinates: 52°36'33" N 4°94'94" E

Reason: Photo taken during a Autumnal bike ride before I had to work later that day.

Flevopark: The creation of this park started in 1908 by naturatlist P. Thijsse. In 1914 they started with the expropriation procedure and from 1921 there was money available to get this place suitable for the construction of a park. In 1928 the construction began.

The park got its name in 1943, in 1958 the road which runs along Flevoweg called. The name is derived from the Flevo, which the Zuiderzee, now IJsselmeer, arose.

On the west side of the park is the Jewish cemetery dating from 1714 a buffer with the construction of the Indian neighborhood. The cemetery is not open to visitors, but is ecologically integral with the park. The cemetery is no longer in use since 1942, but the graves are in accordance with the Jewish tradition is not cleared. In the construction of the Flevoweg in 1956, a number of graves moved to a cemetery in Diemen.

The "municipal pumping station No. 014" was built in 1880 as a pumping station to the Outewaler Polder to keep dry, put into operation in 1881 and electrified in 1916. The pumping station is over a hundred years remained in use. It is since 1992 the Municipal Monuments at the address Flevopark 13 (until 1964 was the address Ringsloot 13). In 2010 the pumping station in use as a distillery and tasting room.

On the north side of the Flevopark is the Amsterdamsebrug (bridge) opened in 1957 on the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. In line lies the Schellingwouderbrug, part of the connection to Amsterdam-Noord.

In 1980, the tram lines 3 and 10, respectively, from the Muiderpoortstation and Molukkenstraat extended to the Flevopark. Since 2004, the tram lines 7 and 14 and since 2018 the lines 3 and 14.

The Barrio 18 gang members are detained by the police officers from the special emergency unit (Halcones) in a gang neighbourhood of San Salvador, El Salvador. Although the murder rate in the country has dropped significantly, after a truce between two major street gangs (Mara Salvatrucha and Barrio 18) was agreed in 2012, the lack of security and violence are still the main issues in people's daily life. Due to the fact the gangs have never stopped their criminal activities (extortions, distribution of drugs and kidnappings), the Police anti-gang forces keep running their operations and chasing the ‘homeboys’ (how the gang's foot soldiers usually call themselves) in the poor, socially deprived suburbs of Salvadoran cities. © Jan Sochor Photography
