Alexander Scott Gonzalez (b: April 8, 1973) is a former MLB infielder, who spent the majority of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays. Gonzalez established a career-high with 20 home runs for the Chicago Cubs in 2003 and hit 20 or more doubles eight times. He was drafted straight out of high school in the 14th round of the 1991 Major League Baseball Draft by the Blue Jays.
After making the major league team to begin 1994, Gonzalez batted only .151 in 15 games and was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse at the end of April because of a hamstring injury. Gonzalez was the Blue Jays starting shortstop from 1995 to 2001 with the exception of 1999 when Toronto traded for Tony Batista. Throughout his career, Gonzalez averaged around .250 with decent power for a middle infielder, but was unable to hit for high average. He made up for the lack of average with good RBI production and solid defense. He led the American league twice in fielding percentage for shortstops. After spending eight years with the Toronto Blue Jays, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs on December 21, 2001, for Felix Heredia and minor leaguer James Deschaine.
Gonzalez has worked as an analyst for NBC Sports and MLB Network covering season news and the World Baseball Classic.

The North Carolina Tar Heels, a power five program out of the Atlantic Coast Conference, dealt Old Dominion its first home defeat since November 2015. But in the loss, ODU gained a new starting quarterback.
True freshman Steven Williams, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson H.S. in Washington, D.C., replaced starting quarterback Jordan Hoy and backup QB Blake LaRussa in the 53-23 loss.
"When you don't have a first down in the first quarter and you have no energy on the sideline because the players feel it, you have to make the move," ODU head football coach Bobby Wilder explained. "I didn't go into this game thinking [Williams] would play."
Seeing his first action, the 17 year old Williams completed 9-of-20 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw an interception and lost a fumble. Williams added 34 rushing yards on seven attempts.
"We haven't developed an identity on offense," Wilder noted. "Stevie Williams today gave us an identity. Steven Williams is the quarterback of the Old Dominion football team moving forward."
"They just said 'let's go," Williams explained of how he learned he was about to receive his first college playing time. "My teammates were all behind me. I just had to go do my job and we'll be fine."
Old Dominion outscored North Carolina (1-2), 16-14, in the second half, after trailing the Tar Heels, 39-7, at the half.
Prior to the game, ODU learned All-Conference USA running back Ray Lawry, the program's all-time leading rusher, has a torn hamstring. Head coach Bobby Wilder reveals the injury could keep Lawry sidelined for the remainder of the season.

This has been quite a tough week physically. In my sleep, my jaw basically unhinged itself way out of alignment probably in part due to some crazy sleep teeth grinding. It hasn't happened in a while, but I woke up and my jaw was so sore and my bite was completely off like someone had punched my top teeth to the right. That was part one. Part two is the ongoing drama with my hamstring which I injured during exercise on last Thursday. I can't really drive because it happened to my right leg and so driving/walking/sleeping...all have been nearly impossible. Part three is costochondritis. It has been quite some time since this shite has been this bad. Usually I'm three days of raging pain and then things sort of subside slowly to manageable twinges throughout the day, but this set has had my whole chest and sides on fire. It's the kind of stuff where you can barely concentrate. Massaging the muscle makes it ten times worse, so the only relief I have found is some Icy/Hot. I rubbed all across my chest and side and it took out the immediate burning pain from the muscle inflamation, but I could still feel it internally. Then part four, Chrons flare again which has made my joints swell, particularly my elbows. Again, I tried some IB and some Icy/Hot, neither of which seemed to help that, but my stomach has been an unruly character. So for the past week, basically my entire body has been hurting me. I broke down the other day because everything just hurt so much. It was one of those moments where I really needed a hug.
I don't think people really understand how isolating it is sometimes to just be in all sorts of pain. You just don't want to go places anymore and sit there like some sad sack, but everything hurts so bad, you just get sick of pretending to smile and like everything is okay. I've explained it all to a few close friends, but I don't even think they understand because of course they aren't experiencing it. My beloved parents, just want cures for everything which is what every parent would want, but other then the hamstring thing, and putting that on R.I.C.E., nothing I have has a known cause or cure, so whenever they ask me how I am or if they come to visit, I usually just lie and say everything is fine because I've been to so many doctors visits only for them to test me for this or that and tell me the same thing. I think I'm just sick of talking about it, which is what I did tell my parents once...really, what is the point of saying everyday of the week, hey, I'm in pain, I'm still in pain? People stop caring. They get bored, they don't want to hear the same old story. They just want to hear that you're fine and that everything is perfect again.
I'm probably venting extra hard today because I just really have had zero sleep. I'm exhausted, waking up again in the middle of the night and too uncomfortable to go back to sleep. Frustrated...

The four seniors saying "bye" last week at the end of their regular season of basketball. My daughter, Brooke, is on the right. It was even more bittersweet than it normally would've been. Brooke tore her ACL halfway during the season and couldn't play anymore. She just got out of the hospital earlier this day. They removed some of her hamstring to repair the torn ACL. :( The college that was wooing her stopped calling and it was just horrible all-around. Oh well, everything happens for a reason I guess.
