A halogen light bulb behind protective glass. The image is 2 inches wide. Love the light from this light but it gets so hot!
My dog, Zuki, at night at the end of a parking lot under the light of a full moon and a halogen light. The postprocessing involved warping in Photoshop and layering effects. The title comes from the full moon behind her and her shadow looking like a howling wolf.
I loved the reflection that I got from this cooking pan that I never use. Believe it or not the pan is black, but I had a light shining directly behind this shot and it was also reflected on the pan.
Shot in studio. With a mixture of lighting. Flash heads, and Halogen lighting.
There was also the use of a cardboard mask used on the Halogen lamp....

This shot was named “First Smoke” because it is the first image taken in my new photography studio in my family room in the basement. It reminded me of the term “First Light” from astronomy(a).
It is appropriate that my studio is next to the bar. I shall measure the quality of my work as a function of the spirits that I might imbibe.
This is my first effort at shooting smoke. It is not great -- in fact, it isn’t even good. But, I know what I need to do to improve. I post this as a baseline.
That said, I kinda like how this turned out.

Process:
Nikon D200, 300mm, 1/80, f/5.6, WB Tungsten, manual exposure, ISO 1600. Lighting: Harbor Freight 500W halogen worklight @ 24 inches left of smoke. Black background, barn doors around light. Adobe Photoshop include:
a. Unsharp mask to emphasize the noise (I liked it)
b. Color gradient fill layer using hard mask.
Observations:
1. I expected to have problems with lighting. A flash is mandatory if the smoke is to be in crisp focus. The best I could muster was 1/80sec at ISO 1600. It really didn’t freeze the smoke and, had I gone higher in ISO, the noise would have been worse.
2. The light must not hit the black background. I need better barn doors around the light.
3. The supply of Jack Daniels Single Barrel was running low and, therefore, the photo session was terminated before I could try a flash.

Sigh, why is it that I always choose the warmest muggiest days to lock myself in a dark little garage and turn the halogen lights on? It's really not sensible :S
The aim of today was just to show some sort of dance and movement. I'm quite happy with how it turned out :) although it was weird to produce, usually when I dance in the garage (oh yeah, some people have a band in their garage, I dance in mine) its with the lights off and the door to the house cracked just the tiniest bit so that there is enough light to see the shadows of trip hazards but not enough to see the colours in their shapes.... This room was bright as can be.
Replaced a dead high beam on my car today. I knew it was blown but I didn't know just how much. this one has a zit. Cross processing applied in post.

As the photographer in the family, I have been given the job of photographing items to be sold on the family business website www.thegeniescave.co.uk or on eBay. There is quite a bit of variety (if you think about what might be found in a cave belonging to a genie!) and I quite enjoy doing it. This image was taken using a small light tent illuminated by a pair of halogen lamps of the type commonly found in bathroom or kitchen ceilings.

Nearly two months in Mumbai, having shifted from Delhi, life for me has become very hectic, both at office & settling down at home. I have not been getting much time for taking my camera out for photography.
Monsoons have reached Mumbai, albeit around a month late. It drizzles every day, another reason why my camera still continues to rest in the camera bag.
Sitting beside the window of my 17th floor apartment, I think of possible subjects or places in Mumbai for photography…Adjacent to our apartment complex is another towering building being built & work is going on at full pace from 6.30 in the morning to 10 in the night. After sundown, the Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) rods illuminated by the Halogen lights, in my eyes look quite beautiful, like giant panpipes ... I see them everyday, but only the other day thought I take some pictures of these.
I wanted to capture the white halogen light escaping from the overall warm, golden glow of my floor lamp. This is not a golden toned shade, but a pearlised inner coating on the white shade, that gives this effect. I realised that I could capture the escaping white light, (and make it 'pop' against the golden glow), by holding the camera at a very acute angle to the pleats.
Phew!
I'm not too sure if was worth all the explanation now!

Taken at a recent wedding shoot in India. Rajputs from the Indian state of Rajasthan wear distinctive turbans. Rajputs traditionally wear coloured turbans. The Marwaris wear light coloured turbans. It is said that the style of the turban changes with every 15 km you travel. In some areas, especially in Rajasthan the turban's size may indicate the position of the person.

I planned to do some strobist work today. Found out that the batteries to my flash wasn’t charged. Had to use a halogen lamp, 150W, from the right trough homemade softbox. Result pretty good, but these cinnamon "sticks" are quite forgiving when it comes to light I guess. Better luck later today when the batteries are charged...
