719 was chartered by the Bus History Association for a day long tour of the Halifax area.
Halifax Transit 2012 NovaBus LFS artic #753 is seen finishing a rush hour run on route 52. It is rare to see an articulated Bus out of Ragged Lake on the 52, usually the artics on this route are Burnsides
On my morning photowalk, I explored some of the downtown, but also their wonderful wonderful waterfront. It's quite extensive, and I wasn't able to explore the entirety of it. Oddly, even though there are many world-class attractions there, I was QUITE taken by the little village of sea cans that were converted to shops.
New to Reays, I believe YJ62JWL is now owned by Arriva Bus & Coach (dealers) and is used by them as a courtesy vehicle to replace vehicles in for work to be done. Here it is in a misty Halifax Bus Station about to work an early Halifax-Dewsbury service for Arriva Yorkshire, who have had this vehicle on loan before.
On our second day in Halifax for the Unison Choruses Festival, I started the day with a short walkabout in the downtown and waterfront prior to the start of the event as I had some time to kill before festival delegate registration began. There weren't any actual festival concerts until the evening, but I needed to connect with the organizers ahead of the busy days to come.
View from the MacDonald Bridge on Barrington Street, towards downtown Halifax, Canada.
Shooting this was very difficult: every time a car went by, the bridge shook! I had to limit the exposure time and shoot between the passing cars. At the same time I wanted some traffic on the streets below, which made timing extra difficult.
Shooting data: ISO 400, 20mm, f/16, 4s.
Halifax Harbour is a large natural harbour on the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia, Canada.
Located in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Halifax Harbour is considered to be the second largest ice free harbour in the world, although this claim is also contested by roughly a half dozen other harbours, depending upon how harbour limits are delineated.
The harbour is called chebucto by the Mi'kmaq Nation and runs in a northwest-southeast direction.
Based on average vessel speeds, the harbour is strategically located approximately one hour sailing time north of the Great Circle Route between the Eastern Seaboard and Europe. As such, it is the first inbound and last outbound port of call in eastern North America with trans-continental rail connections.
The harbour is largely formed by a drowned river valley which succumbed to sea level rise since glaciation. The Sackville River now empties into the upper end of the harbour in Bedford Basin, however its original river bed has been charted by the Canadian Hydrographic Service throughout the length of the harbour and beyond.

The former Odeon Cinema, latterly a bingo hall which closed a few months ago, leaving the building to an uncertain future. Right is Albion Court, built by Halifax Corporation Housing Committee and opened in 1964 as part of a housing improvement scheme. Visible left is part of Crossfield House, DWP offices built on the site of Crossfield Bus Station. Crossfield House is my former workplace, opened c1995. There was a competition for the staff to name the building, and I won it - so I named it! I also got a prize of £50!
