Probably the most westerly Hotel and Pub in Britain, The Hotel sits on the western side of Barra overlooking the white sands of Tangasdale Beach which in itself is within the crescent shaped Halaman Bay just a few miles from the main town of Castlebay. A great walk from here takes you out along the beach to Ben Tangaval where you get lovely views stretching out over the Atlantic west coast.
We recently visited Paraiso de Avedad near San Pablo City in the Philippines, and it was an enchanting experience. The resort beautifully integrates the splendor of natural gardens, the charm of historical significance, and the grandeur of architectural design. Nestled among verdant landscapes and stunning views, the resort stands true to its name, offering a slice of paradise. Currently, it serves as a delightful day-resort and restaurant offering scrumptious cuisine. Overnight stays are not available yet, but the warmth of the community and its hospitable residents is ever-present.
Every corner of the resort echoes its rich history, with relics and artifacts narrating stories from the past. Strolling through the pathways bordered by venerable trees, I felt deeply connected to history and nature alike. The architecture is a perfect fusion of traditional and contemporary styles, providing an atmosphere that is both majestic and welcoming.

On our way to Baler, a beautiful place at the Pacific Ocean coast, in the drive itself you see a wonder of nature. The Sierra Madre, the longest mountain range in the Philippines, has magnificent views. It runs from the province of Cagayan down to the province of Quezon, forming a north–south direction on the eastern portion of Luzon.
The Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park, is situated at the northern part of the range in the province of Isabela. The park is in the UNESCO tentative list for World Heritage List inscription. Environmentalists, scholars, and scientists have been urging the government to include the other parks within the Sierra Madre mountains for a UNESCO site that would encompass the entire mountain range from Cagayan to Quezon.
It was a wonderful journey to Baler, but many places were not safe enough to stop for a picture. Finally we found this spot.

While on Barra, I took a trip one day to see the Iron Age broch at Dun Ban and as I was walking along the beach at Bagh Halaman I saw this...thing...in the water. I’m going to be honest, at first I thought it was a body, but closer inspection revealed it wasn’t, it was...something else. I didn’t really want to examine it too closely and in the end decided not to go to the broch.
I’d watched both BBC adaptations of James’ Oh Whistle and I’ll Come to You before travelling so I’ll fully admit that I was very suggestible to seeing spooky things where none really existed!

Also known as the yellow-bellied sunbird, is a species of sunbird found from Southern Asia to SouthEast Asia to Australia. Feed largely on nectar, although they will also take insects, especially when feeding young. Their flight is fast and direct on their short wings. Most species can take nectar by hovering, but usually perch to feed most of the time. Originally from mangrove habitat, the olive-backed sunbird has adapted well to humans, and is now common even in fairly densely populated areas, even forming their nests near human homes.

Kelicap yang paling biasa dilihat di taman-taman di banyak jenis kawasan di Malaysia. Ia terbang pantas dari pokok ke pokok yang berbunga mencari nektar. Ia dikatakan berasal dari kawasan paya tetapi sekarang telah beradaptasi dengan persekitaran bandar, malah boleh dijumpai bersarang dalam kawasan halaman rumah.
Mbahku dulu berpesan, kalau pagi dahulukan menyapu halaman depan dulu. biarin lantai dalam rumah masih kotor berantakan, yang penting halaman depan terlihat bersih dan rapi dulu, biar sedap dipandang tetangga yang lewat depan rumah.
Memang, ketidaksempurnaan atau kekurangan dalam rumah jangan sampai ada orang lain yang tahu, biarlah orang lain hanya tahu bahwa keluarga kita baik baik saja.... gak perlu diobral aib keluarga ke luar. Begitu maksud filosofi yang kutangkap
Noong unang panahon sa bundok ng Cristobal ay may isang mabait na ina. Masipag at maalaga sa kanyang mga anak. Talagang napakabuti niya at mahal na mahal ang kanyang mga anak. Dahil sa sampu ang kanyang anak, talagang nahirapan siya sa pag-aaruga sa mga batang ito. Isang araw, nagkasakit ang ina at bigla na lamang namatay. Ang kaawa-awang mga bata ay nag-iyakan at ang sabi nila ay ganito: “ Sino na ang magpapakain sa amin?” tanong ng pinakamatandang anak.
“Sino na ang mag-aalaga sa amin?” tanong ng ikalawang anak. “ Sino na ang maglalaba ng ating damit?” tanong ng ikatlong bata.
Habang sila ay nag-iiyakan, may dumating na isang babae na di nila kilala. Siya’y maganda at maputi. “ Huwag na kayong umiyak” sabi niya. “ Di kayo pababayaan ng inyong ina. Ilibing ninyo siya at magbantay kayo sa kanyang libingan. Makikita ninyo na may tutubo roon na puno. Ang punong iyon ay pagkukunan ninyo ng makakain araw-araw. Biglang nawala ang maputi at magandang babae. Akala ng mga bata ay nananaginip lang sila.
Sumunod naman ang sampung mababait na mga bata. Pagkalibing sa ina nila, binantayan nila ang libingan araw at gabi at pagkatapos ng sandaling panahon ay may nakita na nga silang isang halaman na tumubo. Mabilis ang paglaki nito at kaagad naging isang mataas na puno. Nagtaka ang mga bata dahil sa taas ng puno at sa dami ng bunga nito.
“Marahil aakyatin ko na lamang itong puno.” sabi ng pinakamatanda at dali-dali siyang umakyat at pumitas ng bunga. “Mga ulo ninyo,” ang sigaw niyang babala sa itaas. “Ibabagsak ko ito at buksan ninyo.” Nang biyakin ng ikalawang anak ang bunga, nakita nilang may tubig ito.
“Naku! Ang puti at ang tamis ng tubig,” sabi nila. Tinikman nila ang laman at ang nasabi ay “Ang puti at kay sarap naman ng lasa ng bungang ito.” ang wika ng ikaapat na anak.
Naghulog pa ng maraming bunga ang batang umakyat sa itaas ng puno. Nagkainan at nag-inuman nakita nila na di sila magugutom pang muli. Ang bungang iyon ay kauna-unahang niyog dito sa daigdig. Iyan ang alamat ng niyog.

One of my idol in the Pinoy Kodakero group is Terence (mangtacio). He has a keen eye in the abstract, in silhouettes, in macros, in superb dofs. He is quite young, a male nurse by profession, quite new in Flickr and already a holder of hundreds of Explored photos and many Front Pages.
This shot is similar to Terence's uploaded photo of last week.

Cuckoo that can be found in forest edges and wooded area. Usually gives our eerie sound like a ghost when occur nearby. Nest-parasite in nature.
Sewah ini adalah parasit sarang sepertimana kebanyakan burung Sewah yang lain. Ia boleh dijumpai di kawasan pinggir hutan. Sewah yang ini saya rakam di Grik, sewaktu dia makan buah pinang raja yang sedang masak di halaman.

Burung Mata Putih, Oriental White-eye, Zosterops palpebrosus
During the dry season birds will gather in areas known to be a source of water for them to drink. If you are watering the trees at your home regularly and consistently, you will be surprised to observe the types of birds that come for drink. Most of the birds in urban areas have adapted to the situation and the way of life of the city for survival. Usually the birds that comes is Myna, Sparrow, Crow and Magpie. However, in the heat of this afternoon, I found a pair of White-eye waiting. So, watch out for the birds in your yard. Maybe there gonna be a rare birds came for water.
Semasa musim kemarau burung-burung liar akan berkumpul di kawasan yang diketahui ada sumber air untuk mereka minum. Sekiranya anda menyiram pokok pokok di kawasan rumah anda secara kerap dan pada waktu yang konsisten, anda akan terkejut apabila memerhati jenis jenis burung yang datang minum (masa musim kemarau ler). Kebanyakan burung-burung di kawasan bandar telah beradaptasi dengan situasi dan cara hidup bandar bagi kesinambungan generasi mereka. Lazimnya burung burung yang datang minum dari pokok pokok dan pasu yang saya siram adalah burung burung jenis Gembala, Ciak, Gagak dan Murai. Namun di kala petang yang panas itu saya dapati ada sepasang Mata Putih turut menanti. Jadi perhatikan burung burung di halaman anda. Mungkin ada burung burung yang rare datang minum.

Backs of shophouses, from a small enclave that surrounds the Tan Kongsi (Temple) in Penang. A shophouse on the right (not in the picture) still makes the screen-printed banners that are found on Chinese temples & shrines. The word 'Halaman' refers to a small back lane.
