Ånieżne KotÅy (Snow Cirques) are twin glacial cirques carved into the northern slope of the main ridge of the Karkonosze Mountains between Wielki Szyszak (1,509 m above sea level) and Åabski Sazczyt (1,472 m above sea level). Located further west, MaÅy Ånieżny KocioÅ (Snow Cirque), is deeper, but the rock walls are much lower than in Wielki Ånieżny KocioÅ (Snow Cirque), where they reach up to 120 m. Both cirques are enclosed by a massive moraine embankment. Among the rock debris lining Wielki KocioÅ are two small Ånieżne Stawki (Snow Ponds). A basalt vein is exposed in the western wall of MaÅy KocioÅ, home to an exceptionally rich and interesting flora and fauna. A number of viewpoints offering extraordinary panoramas are available on the edge of Wielki Ånieżny KocioÅ. In winter, massive snow overhangs form on the edges of the Ånieżne KotÅy, snow avalanches frequently descend through the gullies, and snow often lingers at the base of the rock walls until late summer. The Haleakala observatories are at the 10,000' summit of the volcano on the island of Maui. This is apparently considered one of the premier spots for these because of the thinner atmosphere, lack of light pollution and (?) the equatorial location. One of these tracks space junk and can track a basketball orbiting the earth. I remember seeing golf on the moon but don't recall basketball outside the space shuttle. Perhaps it was the Russians?
