Il veille sur toi

starting to see this more and more everyday. You'd think that, with the amount of resistance this lifestyle gets already, there would be less of this shit and more writers killing it together.

I've had a few questions about what haiku is, so here's a little explanation. Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry that is based on Buddhist Zen philosopy. The form uses exactly 17 syllables in 3 lines (with 5-7-5 syllables on each line). Generally the poem is about nature or a season.

Thank you to PikPix, di off the wallaby and suesviews for providing such beautiful examples of haiku poetry in their comments below.

Snowflakes twirl and dance,

Faeries in the frosty air,

Whispers through the night.

falling leaves

hide the path

so quietly

~John Bailey, "Autumn," a haiku year, 2001, as posted on oldgreypoet.com

Large on black is especially nice :-D

"Una salta, y en cuanto la oyen, todas las demás RANAS saltan"

Baila sin miedo

Brisa en los árboles

Rayito de luz.

Senza nome,

l'erbaccia cresce in fretta

lungo il fiume

Yosa Buson

This was our first hamster. Her name was Haiku and she was the cuddliest little friend that we could have. She has passed on now, but she posed for some nice pictures.

A haiku today:

a fly on a stone

did not want to fly away

something different

blades of grass reach high

the sun bids the day farewell

Son departs for math,

Proofs and theorems lie ahead—

Future's quest begins.

Radio silence

Dark gray shadow of lost dreams

Heartbreaks lonely song

Autumn leaves drift down,

Empty paths stretch far ahead,

Quiet fills the air.

A rose in cold air,

December winds softly blow,

Petals hold their flame.

A visual haiku? In any case a photo of a lonesome flower accompanied by some words evocated by their being:

Im kargen Garten

Trotzig die letzte Blume

Den Frost erwartet.

-----------------------------------

In the dead garden

Truculent the last flower

Awaiting the frost.

"Ils cambrent leurs pétales

de blancheur

les chrysanthèmes de lune ! " Hisajo

"They cambrent petals

of whiteness

chrysanthemums moon" Hisajo

Evening's gentle dance.

Three flowers at peace,

Midsummer's soft warmth enfolds—

Nature's quiet sigh.

" Arriva, primavera.

Anche alla montagna che nemmeno ha nome. "

Created by inkyD. The Japanese Haiku I've chosen is shown in the bottom R/H corner and is in the English format of three lines rather than the traditional Japanese fomat of a single vertical line. Written by Yosa Buson (1716-1783).
