"Let’s go out
To see the snow view
Where we slip and fall."
Winter Haiku - Matsuo Basho (1644-1694)
Winter is coming and despite the nasty things that come along like freezing cold, too much snowfall, crap when the snow melts again, it also has a very serene and beautiful side.
Wishing everyone an inspiring week ahead ;-))

The poetry of earth is never dead.
~ John Keats
I will be away tomorrow and Friday so will catch up with you on the weekend!
"From across the lake,
Past the black winter trees,
Faint sounds of a flute."
Haiku ― Richard Wright
ice-abstract.
I was excited to see Haiku Hands from Australia open up West Fest on Friday night. Their music is very fun pop/dance music to listen to but live it's much more energetic and engaging in my opinion. Sometimes, I have to force myself to dance when the world is falling apart but I feel better afterwards. It doesn't mean I can't be sad and dance at the same time...but, that balance...
Have a listen....

Frozen garden rests
’til Spring; but there, Camellia
blooms defiantly!
I’m planning to creatively challenge myself this year by composing a haiku for images I post. I’m sure I’ll miss a few, but my intent is to slow down and even more thoroughly enjoy and experience this whole process, and hopefully realize some improvement.
This first effort certainly appears to have been written by a mechanical engineer (that’s me) but maybe I’ll get better with time!
I captured this camellia bloom in my Seattle front yard just last week despite some temps well below freezing this December…pretty tough plant.
A Ronin ponders..

Ghost of Tsushima
Un haïku est un poème extrêmement bref, célébrant l'évanescence des choses et les sensations qu'elle suscite.
Le serpent s’esquiva
Mais le regard qu’il me lança
Resta dans l’herbe.
Takahama Kyosh
Leaves of any colors
A chill just passed in the air
Is time to awake
Foglie di tutti i colori
Un brivido è appena passato nell'aria
E' tempo di svegliarsi
Inspired by bjg_snaps gorgeous photo and accompanying haiku for its official day, I have made a humble attempt of my own. (Warning: it's bad.)
The cut in blue sky
Pouring blood from the heavens
Was stabbed by that stick
un soir d'hiver
couchée dans herbe gelée
j'entends les rires d'amis
one winter evening
lying on the frozen grass
I hear the laugh of friends
žiemos vakarą
gulėdama šaltoj žolėj
girdžiu draugų juoką
Je souhaite à toutes et à tous un très bon weekend. Riez grand
kissing a butterfly
makes me feel
light in this cold dawn

no big glittery icons or invitations , please !
A small fleck of fall,
the morning light now reveals.
Gold leaf, frosted flakes.
We had a heavy frost in early December -- many of the leaves were still hanging around which made for some nice subjects. I probably spent too much time on too many leaves instead of focusing on the really cool ones, but this was one of my favorites...it was a beautiful morning.
remembering now
my mother’s camellia
this bittersweet spring

With this Haiku poem I have paired it with Sinéad O'Connor's song "Nothing Compares 2 U". On listening to her sing this again recently after many years, the words below came to me. So this is part two of this work if you like.

Sinéad O'Connor - December 1966 - July 2023.
I would like to express my condolences to Sinéad O'Conner's family at this deeply difficult and sad time of Sinéad's passing. I share with those people who loved her music and indomitable spirit a heartfelt sadness that her bright spirit is not here to give us joy any longer. But I hope that her soul has now found the peace that she so longed for. May she rest in peace with her God. Her legacy will continue to comfort and delight us and we will remain forever grateful that this unique woman shared her talent and life with us. Thank you, dear Sinéad.
a lot of my flowers
have gone mama
but your camellia blooms
It's been 4 years and 49 days...
