Assange supporters at Ecuadorean embassy fear police invasion - 16.08.2012
Following the astonishing statement on 15.08.2012 by British officials that the government is willing to revoke the diplomatic status of the Ecuadorean Embassy in Knightsbridge in order to enter it and arrest Wikileaks founder Julian Assange who is applying for political asylum from the Ecuadorean government - which is making their decision known later today - around 20 Wikileaks supporters gathered outside the embassy in the very early hours of 16.08.2012, fearful that the embassy was going to be invaded by the police.
The police had substantially increased their presence around the embassy, and I had sight of around five officers occupying the main foyer of the embassy. They were also closely guarding the fire exits in case Assange tries to make a break for freedom.
Observers say that if the British did this they would be in direct violation of the Vienna Convention, which governs the rules of diplomacy and diplomatic jurisdictions under international law. Already there have been threats to invade British emnbassies abroad should the Foreign and Commonwealth Office carries out its threat.

Crowd jubilant as Ecuador grants Julian Assange political asylum - 16.08.2012
A large crowd of supporters of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and US soldier Bradley Manning descended on the Ecuador embassy on 16.08.2012 to wait for news of a decision by the Ecuadorean government on Assange's application for political asylum.
At 1:30pm word came through embassy oficials that the government in Quito had granted asylum to Assange on humanitarian grounds. Despite cheering and applause from the crowd, it was widely accepted that Assange's problems are far from over, and this might just be a pyrrhic victory.

The first IconLocal, hosted in Honolulu, brought together designers, developers, civic hackers, activists and community service providers to assist the homeless and the people who help them. An IconLocal supports The Noun Project, a movement to develop simple, universal, public domain symbols and icons to inform and guide the public across a variety of issues. Stencil art on a San Francisco, California sidewalk by local artist Eclair Acuda Bandersnatch. Part of this stencil says "R.I.P. Aaron Swartz". Aaron Hillel Swartz (November 8, 1986 – January 11, 2013) was an American computer programmer, entrepreneur, writer, political organizer, and Internet hacktivist. He was involved in the development of the web feed format RSS and the Markdown publishing format, the organization Creative Commons, the website framework web.py, and the social news site Reddit, in which he became a partner after its merger with his company, Infogami. Swartz's work also focused on civic awareness and activism. He helped launch the Progressive Change Campaign Committee in 2009 to learn more about effective online activism. In 2010, he became a research fellow at Harvard University's Safra Research Lab on Institutional Corruption, directed by Lawrence Lessig. He founded the online group Demand Progress, known for its campaign against the Stop Online Piracy Act. On January 6, 2011, Swartz was arrested by MIT police on state breaking-and-entering charges, after connecting a computer to the MIT network in an unmarked and unlocked closet, and setting it to download academic journal articles systematically from JSTOR using a guest user account issued to him by MIT. Federal prosecutors later charged him with two counts of wire fraud and eleven violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, carrying a cumulative maximum penalty of $1 million in fines, 35 years in prison, asset forfeiture, restitution, and supervised release. He committed suicide while under federal indictment for his alleged computer crimes.
