A common phenomena this time of year on the Moray Firth. Called the Haar, sea fog, rolled in as I waited for the sunrise but in the end added to the atmosphere I feel.

I woke early and headed out for a walk to be greated by a dense Haar - not great for wildlife spotting but it gave the loch a mystical feel.

Coastal fog or mist is a regular occurrence along the eastern coast of the UK and is most common during spring and summer. In eastern Scotland, it is known locally as Haar…seen here at Lossiemouth East Beach…

The largest castle in The Netherlands The medieval House De Haar dates from the 13th century. It fell into disrepair in the 18th and 19th centuries. Architect Pierre Cuypers (famous for his designs of the Rijksmuseum and the Central Station in Amsterdam) restored and rebuilt De Haar for baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar. The rebuilding took from 1892 till 1912 and was a project unique of its kind in all of Europe.

Haar, a Scots word for the fog or sea mist.

In Scotland the sea fog that rolls in is known as a Haar and as we wake up in the morning this is the sight that greets me from my bedroom window, looking out across Portree harbour.

26/12/2017; Gave myself a Christmas gift, last Boxing Day, by having visited Kasteel de Haar. A castle I haven't visited ever before, despite being situated relatively close to where I live. Sometimes it's nice to play tourist in my own country.

De Haar Castle (Dutch: Kasteel de Haar) is located near Haarzuilens, in the municipality of Utrecht in the Netherlands. The current buildings, all built upon the original castle, date from 1892 and are the work of Dutch architect P.J.H. Cuypers, in a Neo-Gothic restoration project funded by the Rothschild family.

Enjoy...

It looks like the coastal Haar has started forming in Stirling now it is April which is great, something to be able to capture locally. I awoke early this morning to find some thick fog outside, I jumped onto the bike and cycled up the road to Arnprior. The foggy trees were lovely but the drone views were spectacular!

Haar (cold sea fog) rolls in from the North Sea, blanketing the city in cloud.

I finally managed (trying for years) to take a misty bluebell wood shot! Was worth the early rise yesterday.
