With low temperatures forecast overnight, I headed to Minions in search of wintry scenes... and the location didn't disappoint! I hoped for frost, but found that the village on Bodmin Moor had heavy dusting of snow overnight! (Heavy for Cornwall).

Arriving before sunrise, I first climbed The Cheesewring (Stowes Hill). From there, as the sun came up, I enjoyed views across a misty Lynher Valley. On the way back to the car, I spotted the Stamps Engine House ruin in partial shade cast by Wheal Tor (making the strong midday sunlight more manageable), in front of the mist filled valley. The rust coloured ferns create a striking contrast to the blue sky.

I felt that a panorama would help to compress the scene to bring out the valley beyond. I'm not sure it really worked compared with my single shot test exposure, but at least it's created a large, detailed file...

Another photo of St Catherine's Island - taken during last month's trip to Tenby (which now seems an age ago!)

I positioned myself to use the incoming waves lapping the sand as a lead-in towards the island focal point.

A grad filter alone while shooting onto the sun just didn't cut it on this occasion. So, bracketed exposures for HDR processing was needed.

Wish you were here? I don't often take "postcard" style photos, but when I'm presented with a view like this...

I had a day off today. Did I have a lie in? Noooo... I was up at 4:20am to head to the north coast for some sunrise photography!

Lately I've been arriving at locations a little late and have rushed to take photos. It hasn't been as enjoyable as it should and has often resulted in failure. So today, I arrived at Trevose Head a full hour before sunrise.

My intention was to shoot the Padstow RNLI Lifeboat Station from behind, with the rising sun catching its roof (as many other photographers had done before). But when I arrived (having never been here before), I found the steps to the station closed due to covid 👀

I did take a photo from behind the gate which I'll post later. With my extra time though, I decided to wander the coast path - which is when I found this viewpoint from western end of Long Cove Beach. I shot this just before sunrise.
