Taken from my February 2018 Milky Way trip to Joshua Tree National Park. Scorpious Arch is a hidden gem among the photography community. It's location wants to be hidden the world but somehow I was lucky enough to see this amazing outer space world landscape. Visiting this place wasn't a guarantee; we knew the general area of where the arch would be located, although finding the arch would be the hard part.
Finding the arch was like finding a needle in a haystack. Except that only lasted about 2 minutes of searching.
The hunt for the arch was very anti-climactic. But it was better to find it earlier instead of later. I am very happy with the 2 images I got from shooting this arch and I can see how disturbed this place can be if more and more people shoot this location in the night.

One of our guides at the start of our visit to Chicago encouraged us to just walk into any building we were interested in, and explore. This building had been extensively renovated to accommodate a new hotel in the Hilton Hotel chain's "Curio Collection," just called London House. We didn't nose around the hotel too much, but noticed they had a rooftop bar and took the elevator up. It had just rained (but had already stopped) so the bar patrons had evacuated to the indoor bar below, and the front staff noticing we were packing cameras, said: "Just head upstairs.." !!!!!!!!!!! Wow !!!!!!!!!!!
Just playing around with another review! I've posted this piece before, so have used it as a background for my new beautiful silver charm! On a quilted, free motion background, I felted a bunch of fibers to create the bird's nest!

Since I was coming back from Dunedin anyway, I passed on dinner to follow 962 nort. While the phone forecast was good, there were a bunch of clouds that were also pacing the train north, with several sunny spots darkening just as the train arrived. Bah. A spirited drive along the Seacliff back road almost made up for a lack of train pictures.

Glen Canyon Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam on the Colorado River in northern Arizona, United States, near the town of Page. The 710-foot (220 m) high dam was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) from 1956 to 1966 and forms Lake Powell, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the U.S. with a capacity of 27 million acre-feet (33 km3). The dam is named for Glen Canyon, a series of deep sandstone gorges now flooded by the reservoir; Lake Powell is named for John Wesley Powell, who in 1869 led the first expedition to traverse the Colorado's Grand Canyon by boat.
A dam in Glen Canyon was studied as early as 1924, but these plans were initially dropped in favor of the Hoover Dam (completed in 1936) which was located in the Black Canyon. By the 1950s, due to rapid population growth in the seven U.S. and two Mexican states comprising the Colorado River Basin, the Bureau of Reclamation deemed the construction of additional reservoirs necessary. Contrary to popular belief, Lake Powell was not the result of negotiations over the controversial damming of the Green River within Dinosaur National Monument at Echo Park; the Echo Park Dam proposal was abandoned due to nationwide citizen pressure on Congress to do so. The Glen Canyon Dam remains a central issue for modern environmentalist movements. Beginning in the late 1990s, the Sierra Club and other organizations renewed the call to dismantle the dam and drain Lake Powell in Lower Glen Canyon. Today, Glen Canyon and Lake Powell are managed by the U.S. Department of the Interior within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
Since first filling to capacity in 1980, Lake Powell water levels have fluctuated greatly depending on water demand and annual runoff. Operation of Glen Canyon Dam helps ensure an equitable distribution of water between the states of the Upper Colorado River Basin (Colorado, Wyoming, and most of New Mexico and Utah) and the Lower Basin (California, Nevada and most of Arizona). During years of drought, Glen Canyon guarantees a water delivery to the Lower Basin states, without the need for rationing in the Upper Basin. In wet years, it captures extra runoff for future use. The dam is also a major source of hydroelectricity, averaging over 4 billion kilowatt hours per year. The long and winding Lake Powell, known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities including houseboating, fishing and water-skiing, attracts millions of tourists each year to the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
In addition to its flooding of the scenic Glen Canyon, the dam's economic justification was questioned by some critics. It became "a catalyst for the modern environmental movement," and was one of the last dams of its size to be built in the United States. The dam has been criticized for the large evaporative losses from Lake Powell and its impact on the ecology of the Grand Canyon, which lies downstream; environmental groups continue to advocate for the dam's removal. Water managers and utilities state that the dam is a major source of renewable energy and provides a vital defense against severe droughts.

Due to global warming, the ice caps eventually melted, flooding the planet. As humans are known to do, we simply ran from the problem we created, fleeing the waves to later ride them. Boats like The Rust Bucket are common, scavenging the rippling surface for the necessities of life. Housing only two people, a survivor and his son, The Rust Bucket is trusty, with sheets of metal sloppily welded on, armed with an old-world RPD. An "environmentally friendly" green-tipped match in a block of ice. Focusing on the match was hard. I ended up focusing on the edge of the green. The block was placed on top of miniature blue, turquoise, and gold tiles. Lit with a Smith-Victor round LED light at 1/2 power, a purple-gelled Canon 550EX Speedlite, camera left, set to 1/32 power, and a deep straw double-gelled Canon 550EX Speedlite, camera right, set to 1/128 power. Both triggered with Pocket Wizards.

These winter months with covid_19 and harsh weather restricting everyday life fun to bare minimum take on toll on my normally good mood
Syrians have been suffering all around the world, there’s no place that guarantees a good peaceful life for them. And when the world’s doors close in their face, their last option is to go back to their country, their land, their HOME. Only to find out that the Syrian regime has decided not to let any Syrian citizen inside the country unless they exchange $100 (about 220K Syrian Lira) to the Syrian Lira per person. Most Syrians can’t even dream of having this amount at once. All of this resulted in many Syrians getting stuck between the Syrian and Lebanese borders, since their own country isn’t letting them in and the Lebanese aren’t taking them back to their land. They have been sleeping between the mountains without having their basic needs waiting for the solution that the regime will never find.
