Groundwork has started on the esplanade for the new bridge linking Lossiemouth to the East Beach. This JCB JB131 is the biggest excavator on site, luckily there was a spot between the fences to get a decent shot of it.

Following on from groundwork set during 2015, Transdev continues to refresh the image of its operations for 2016 complete with three new rebrands for Harrogate, Keighley and Blackburn. Examples from all three of the 'company' operations to have been rebranded are seen together in this photo with an example from the Blackburn Bus Company, the Keighley Bus Company, and the Harrogate Bus Company....

In an order of 24 vehicles, YJ16 DVV and YJ16 DWL are brand new 11.7m air-conditioned (Thermo-King) Optare Versa single deckers - the order split with 18 to Blackburn (as per 230 on the left) and 6 to Keighley as per 242 in the centre. Interestingly, despite Optare offering a new revised style for the rear end, Transdev have specifically ordered these Versa's with the conventional rear end complete with 'Spider Eyes' rear light clusters. The interior specification of these buses includes wood-effect flooring, wi-fi and USB sockets, in addition to audio 'next stop' announcements which are linked to the destination equipment and GPS-based ticket machine; but most notably the seating has been re-trimmed to the brand new style which will be used across the Blazefield fleets and specially branded routes - the seat moquette is a Ray Stenning 'Creating Desire' creation, whilst headrests are leather and are coloured according to the company the bus is based at (Red for Harrogate, Green for Keighley, Blue for Blackburn and also for Yorkshire Coastliner). The moquette itself is a grey base overlayed with the triangular chunks of colour which are used in the external livery to denote each fleet... red for Harrogate (also for RedExpress), black for route 36, orange for Little Explorers, grey for CityZap, mid-blue for Blackburn, light-blue for Coastliner, green for Keighley, lime-green/yellow for DalesWay, purple/pink for Hotline (a brand yet to be launched, to connect Burnley and Preston via Blackburn).

This new image started in Harrogate on route 36, while route 1 which connects Harrogate and Knaresborough was the first to receive single deckers in the new two-tone red livery with the added bonus of having been refurbished and given a facelift so as to resemble a Wright Eclipse Urban 2 complete with crystal-clear white LED destination equipment, whilst branding sees the number 1 logo given the same 'defragmentation' style as is used on route 36. One of the Volvo B7RLE's now assigned for route 1 is YJ07 PDU which is here at the depot open day.

To the right is one example of where the rebranding exerccise started. Stealth-fronted Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 Volvo B5TL BL65 YZA is one of 14 vehicles specially ordered to work route 36 between Ripon, Harrogate and Leeds - and the fleet comes with a host of upmarket features very rarely seen all on the same vehicle.

Groundwork Coffee, in the refurbished former Southern Pacific / Pacific Electric depot structure in North Hollywood, California, opened for business on January 9, 2017. The two employees seen here were dispensing free coffee samples. The business is holding its Grand Opening festivities today, February 17, 2017, which is projected to be a day of heavy rains in southern California. My work commitments will keep me from checking it out, so I'm afraid I won't be able to post any photos from the event.

The place is located adjacent to the point where passengers debark from the Orange Line buses and mostly rush to board the Red Line subway trains or other buses, so I wouldn't expect many such commuters will pause to grab coffee and pastries between switching transit modes. I was here on a subsequent weekend morning and was a bit surprised by the number of folks, many of them young couples with babies in strollers, walking in presumably from some of the new apartments in the area.

A cascade for Lancashire United, X2 VTD was new as YC53 MXN to Harrogate and District for use on route 36 connecting the town to Ripon and Leeds and was originally a batch of 12 Wright Eclipse Gemini 1 bodied Volvo B7TL's; later they had a major overhaul of the engine and drivetrain complete with a full refurbishment including the application of the Gemini2 front end and new seating inside complete with 2+1 layout upstairs. Now that Harrogate's route 36 is operated primarily by a fleet of brand new Gemini 3's, the 12 original 36 deckers were cascaded elsewhere. Lancashire United took the lions share, gaining 7 vehicles. These have had an external repaint and some light interior branding applied in order to relaunch the X41 route which links Blackburn and Manchester - previously the Lancashire Way, this is now has the slightly vague brand of RedExpress. These retain their orange LED destination equipment, whilst the remaining 5 from the batch which went to York gained white displays.

Following on from groundwork set during 2015, Transdev continues to refresh the image of its operations for 2016 complete with three new rebrands for Harrogate, Keighley and Blackburn. Two 'spare' Gemini's for route 36 were unveiled in the full new brand image earlier this year along with the fleetname of "The Harrogate Bus Company", though the operation still legally trades as Harrogate & District Travel Ltd. This new image has now started to spread out across the network, with route 1 which connects Harrogate and Knaresborough being the first to receive single deckers in the new two-tone red livery with the added bonus of having been refurbished and given a facelift so as to resemble a Wright Eclipse Urban 2 complete with crystal-clear white LED destination equipment, whilst branding sees the number 1 logo given the same 'defragmentation' style as is used on route 36. One of the Volvo B7RLE's now assigned for route 1 is YJ07 PDU which is here at the depot open day. This was new to Blackburn but was sent to York in 2011 to replace Versa's on the 844 Yorkshire Coastliner route, and was later transferred to Malton depot in 2014 when the 844 ceased; it has only recently been transferred from Malton in 2016 as new Volvo B5TL's on order mean it's not required there. 1701-1705, 1800, and 1834/7/8/9 have all been marked for use on route 1, though some are currently being refurbished in preparation for this... there are questions about the future of 1840/41/42 which had been in other fleets and were due to be returned off-lease but have been retained instead - and as 1837 was one of a few which were only leased but later purchased by Transdev, it may be that these three follow suit particularly when you consider that a number of B10BLE's in the Harrogate fleet are to be withdrawn by the end of the year.

Following on from groundwork set during 2015, Transdev continues to refresh the image of its operations for 2016 complete with three new rebrands for Harrogate, Keighley and Blackburn. An example of Keighley's new company brand "the Keighley Bus Company" is seen on YJ16 DWL, one of six brand new air-conditioned 11.7m long Optare Versa single deckers to the operation; only 3 are branded for the K7 route as the other 3 have been given a yellow/green livery (which has been noted to be very similar to the 'Badgerline' livery of the West of England area in the 1990's) and have been branded for the route 66 DalesWay service - the brand had not been launched at the time of this depot open day. Interestingly, despite Optare offering a new revised style for the rear end, Transdev have specifically ordered these Versa's with the conventional rear end complete with 'Spider Eyes' rear light clusters.

New as 2765 to Lancashire United, Volvo B7TL Wright Eclipse Gemini 1 PO55 PYP was transferred to harrogate and given an overhaul with the rest of the B7TL fleet at the time, with engine and gearbox modifications and a full refurbishment inside and out including applying the new Gemini 2 frontage and re-registering the bus to X14 VTD - this was sent across as there was a need for more vehicles due to an increase in service frequency on route 36. Now it is one of only 2 double deckers to gain Harrogate Bus Company livery, along with 3613, and both are mainly used on the 770/771 roue as well as spares for route 36.
