Aa far as I'm concerned, the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., is one of the city's best-kept secrets. Its ground floor is cavernous, carpeted and virtually free of breakable things, which makes it the perfect place for kids to goof around in, and its gorgeous Renaissance architecture and quirky exhibits make it the go-to place for those wanting to learn about the history and impact of the world we've built.
Oh, and its gift shop is routinely voted the city's best! :D
For the first time I paid a visit to this iconic automotive place on the occasion of a modest exhibition of vintage cars from the famous Mahy Collection. I've been so many times in the surrounding streets, but I never realized that this Wintercircus building was hidden here at this spot.
What I like about these walls and steep driveway, is that it was left original after restoration of the building. No new plaster, no new paint. It's good like how it is after so many years of use.
The concrete building was erected in 1923, and designed by architect Jules Pascal Ledoux.
In 1944 the last circus show was held here, and from 1947 onwards the Mahy family used this building to operate a Fiat garage.
In 1978 the Fiat garage closed its doors, and the Mahy family used the building to store a collection of classic cars.
This temporary exhibition was set up to honour the old Ghislain Mahy, by bringing back some iconic items from his collection to the place where it all began: the Ghent Wintercircus.
Ghislain Mahy (1907-1999) was a Fiat car dealer and classic car enthusiast who rented this old Wintercircus building for over forty years. Starting in the early 1950s he built up a collection of old and classical cars from more than 950 items. He bought them mainly in France. And many of them were just saved from the hands of car scrapers.
In 1995 Mahy had to leave this special place. His collection was partly sold, the rest was divided over two museums. Restored top cars went to classic car museum Autoworld, Brussels (about 230 items). But the majority, most unrestored cars, found a new home in a new founded car museum in the south of Belgium called Mahymobiles, Leuze-en-Hainaut.

I like the different texture and colors of these fallen leaves! My sister Linda and I were out yesterday--and we had to look hard for color--the leaves have fallen and winter is on it's way------
Have a wonderful day and weekend ahead everyone ! Thanks for Visiting!
The museum's highlight is a display of artifacts created during underwater excavations around Alexandria in recent years. To provide a comprehensive look at this new branch of archeology. In this, we find some of the most important pieces raised from the seabed, including a black basalt statue of a high priest in a temple of the goddess Isis, raised in 1998, a 2.2-meter granite statue of Isis found in May 2001. It is also the granite stele of King Nakhtnebef, which is an identical copy of the Naucratis stele, discovered in the sunken city of Heraklion, on the sea, from Abuqir.
I work at the Palace of Versailles till 7 years now. I love this place.
This one is my favorite chandelier, in the library of the Dauphin's appartements, in the groundfloor. It's made of pretty little white porcellaine flowers and black metal, so different from the other big crystal chandeliers!

The late-18th century building at the far end of the neatly-tended hedge is the west front of 27, Market Place, Cheese Market (which is off to the left of shot).
A Grade II listed structure, Historic England describes it as a three-storey building featuring an ashlar stone ground floor with brick upper part and a projecting plinth. It features flat eaves and a cornice with coupled brackets.
On the ground floor is an early 19th-century shop off to the left. The modern door is to the right of centre with panelled reveals and reeded surround, and a doorcase of reeded pilasters, with reeded necking, a small broken cornice and open pediment. It also has wreath and swag ornament in the tympanum.
To the right of the image is part of the graveyard of St Thomas's Church, which I featured in an image a couple of days ago.
To the left of the image, fronting the path stretching off to the corner of the square are more Grade II listed structures, 2 and 4, St Thomas's Square.
Historic England describes them as 17th/early-18th century in origin, refronted in the late-18th/early-19th centuries. The two storey structure is stuccoed, with a hipped old tile roof. There are flat eaves with paired flat brackets. There are five windows, one blind, on the first floor, featuring recessed sashes, and intact glazing bars. There is a modern shop front to the left side on ground floor. It includes a 19th-century four-panel door with rectangular fanlight, in a surround of Doric pilasters and entablature. To the right is an early 19th-century double shop front, with nine pane windows flanking an altered door.
I took this because I like the colours and lines.

A marble statue of Venus in a standing attitude with a bent knee and a missing head. Only the bottom part is clothed.
