UP SD70ACe #8714 and an ex-Southern Pacific AC44 are giving it everything they got to pull loaded coal train CBTWL up Logan Hill in the arid Thunder Basin Grasslands. This train was loaded at Black Thunder Mine, and is destined for Union Electric's 2,389-megawatt Labadie Power Station near Labadie, Missouri.
The pounding roar of motors and droning roll of heavy railcars creeping uphill made for a memorable experience at this classic Powder River Basin location.
The most used gadget in our house... coffee bean grinder.
Macro Mondays submission, coffee grind wheel.
A Loram grinder works east through Hamler shortly after starting their work day. Over the next couple weeks, this grinder will work east to Greenwich, then west on the Indy Line before returning.

..unica vera madre: la Fatica
che genera indipendenza
autonomia, individualità.
quando la scegli:
Abbraccia te stesso
..e sappi che vali, che sei capace,
..che hai tutte le qualità per fare e per riuscire.
Comincia intanto a fare qualcosa..

..only true mother: the Exertion
it produces independence
autonomy, individuality.
when you choose it:
Embraces yourself
..and know that you're worth, that you're able,
..and that you have all the qualities for doing and to succeed.
Start meanwhile to do something..
Loram railgrinder RG-4, works it's way through Oconomowoc on a fine autumn morning, putting a finish on the Soo Line's mainline. What I found interesting, surprisingly (?), is the re-purposed Milwaukee Road built ribside caboose bringing up the rear for extinguishing tie/brush fires made from the grinding process.

This rod mill (like a ball mill, but with huge rods inside) is almost 10 ft (3 m) in diameter and maybe 13 or 15 ft (4-5 m) in length. It is used to grind taconite rock ore into finer particles to allow separation of iron concentrates from the taconite ore waste.
It's one of 36 rod mills in this huge building that were constructed in 1950 as part of the old Northshore Mining taconite ore processing site on the Mesabi Iron Range in northern Minnesota.
I can't even imagine how thunderously loud it must have been in there with all 36 rod mills and an additional 36 ball mills running at the same time!

This is one of the Arms of the John Hopskins Glacier show just how much glacial debris is bulldozed ahead of a glacier
For #MacroMonday, #MyDailyRoutine. Essential to start my day. My current favorite, Peet's, Major Dickason's Blend.
