The Musée Picasso, formerly the Château Grimaldi at Antibes, is built upon the foundations of the ancient Greek town of Antipolis. Antibes is a resort town in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France, on the Mediterranean Sea.
HistoryEdit
In 1608 it became a stronghold of the Grimaldi family and has borne their name ever since. In 1702 it became the town hall of Antibes.
From 1925 the chateau was known as the Grimaldi Museum. In 1946 it was the home for six months of the artist Pablo Picasso. Today the museum is known as the Picasso Museum, the first museum in the world to be dedicated to the artist.
Picasso himself donated works to the museum, most notably his paintings "The Goat" and "La Joie de Vivre". In 1990 Jacqueline Picasso bequested many works by Picasso to the museum. These included 4 paintings, 10 drawings, 2 ceramics and 6 etchings. These are displayed at the Château in addition to the 3 works on paper, 60 etchings and 6 carpets by Pablo Picasso which the museum collected between 1952 and 2001. Today the collection totals 245 works by Picasso.
"JOSEPH GRIMALDI 1778-1837
Joseph Grimaldi was 3 years old when he first went on the stage of Sadler's Wells with his father and worked there for 43 years as performer and part-proprietor.
From his debut in 1806 at Covent Garden in Mother Goose he was adored by all and could fill a theatre anywhere. The name Joey has passed into our language to mean a clown.
He lived all his life among the people of Clerkenwell and died at 33 Southampton Street now called Calshot Street.
Islington Council has called the park in which he lies buried the Joseph Grimaldi Park to commemorate a great artist and a great man."
A slice of heaven from Grimaldi's coal-fired oven pizzeria in Tucson, AZ. The toppings were Italian sausage, mushrooms and roasted red pepper. Mmmmmm ... I need to go back soon.
Some of the best stone baked pizza I've had to date! We got to watch them toss the dough in the air too, which was cool! haha
The Grimaldi Band playing live at the Barn Owl in Worcester. Great show. Find out more at www.facebook.com/TheGrimaldiBand.

While I was in NY, the NY Department of Health went on a rampage and started closing down some restaurants that have been longtime favorites for New Yorkers. Among them, John's, a popular pizza joint on Bleecker Street, and even the legendary DiFara's
down in Midwood, Brooklyn. I was pretty disappointed, as I haven't had a chance to try DiFara's yet -- it's like a 2 hour commute to get there.
Well... I couldn't leave NYC without having at least one slice of classic NY-style pie, so my friend Michele accompanied me to Grimaldi's in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Check out that mozzerella! Fresh basil! After months and months of eating Korean Pi-ja, this really hit the spot. For dessert, we went across the street and had some of the fresh creamy goodness at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.
Mattie the Clown (before he's applied make-up) with the annual commemorative cake baked in Grimaldi's honour shortly before the 72nd Annual Clown Church Service at All Saints' Haggerston Church, Hackney, London, United Kingdom.
The service, which has been an annual tradition since 1946, is held in memory of Joseph 'Clown Joey' Grimaldi (1778-1837), the most celebrated English clown who was born and performed in London.
The unique church service is held on the first Sunday of each February and a wreath is laid in Grimaldi's honour.
