So it was down to the harbour last Sunday afternoon to catch a cloudy sunset - after descending a precarious ladder to reach the rocky foreshore of Sydney harbour.

So this is one of my favourite locations on the harbour. You need to get right down to the level of the water & waves. When a boat or ferry goes past the wake causes the waves to splash up all over the rocks. So you need to be careful where you put the camera & lenses.

The storm had passed, and as the sun was setting a beautiful rainbow had appeared.

Crossing the open moorland above Belstone cleave we encountered a few spots with plenty of cotton grass. It was a bit boggy to get to the point of view I wanted to get and I might have caught a tick or two on the way but I was luckty that the sun came out just when I lowered myself for the view towards Belstone.

"The bridge of love !" Ca sonne presque mieux en anglais.

En tout cas l'amour c'est beau en photo.

Surtout avec un si beau rouge...!

It had been a very cloudy and cold day here today, and there was a small break in the clouds and the sun peeked through just for a few seconds.

This is my one and only photograph of the old stone bridge at Sligachan on the Isle of Skye. This isn’t my only shot because I didn’t like the subject or the location. They are both striking on their own way, even on a dreadful day like this was, and I would love to have taken more. No, my reason for not taking another shot was the horrific infestation of midges that seemed to reach their absolute peak of density on this particular day.

It was raining quite hard, which is usually enough to dampen the enthusiasm of even the hardiest midge, but on this day there was not a breath of wind and I think the swarms were sheltering under the arches of the bridge waiting for an unsuspecting victim to come within reach. I was largely waterproof in my attire which you would think would make me armour plated against such a predator but alas it turned out I was not insect proof, especially against an insect that is microscopically small and seems to consist of 90% teeth.

The swarm was so bad that I couldn’t use the viewfinder because the number of insects crawling over the glass blocked my view. To others I looked like I was wearing eye liner because of the number of insects I trapped beneath the lids when I wiped my eyes. This was not a pleasant experience let me tell you!

So my one and only image has sat on the shelf for over a year because of the unpleasant memories it brings up. Not of Skye you understand, which is awesome, but as I sit here typing my skin is once again crawling at the memory of the experience. I know this isn’t one of my better images. I‘ve seen so many better shots taken of this nice little bridge but keep in mind with this particular image I was truly suffering for my art. ;-)

Still a very large part of a Temple to Zeus stands behind where I took this shot, it's on my photostream somewhere. This is Aizanoi, near Kutahya, Turkey. A roman city and the first stock exchange in the world!

Here is another shot of the Megalong Valley this was taken at the Hydro Majestic in the Blue Mountains NSW Australia.

Here is another shot I captured, as we were driving along heading home. The sky looked so dark grey and very stormy. It had been a really hot day, and now it looks like a big storm is on the way.

The still air, thick with humidity, together with the dark clouds over head, filled us with a sense of foreboding. The storm was coming.

Happy Bench Monday

Another 'Right Time - Right Place' moment from last year!

Taken with a Canon EFS 10-18mm lens.

It had just turned 6.00pm and despite the lengthening shadows, there was still 3 hours until sunset.

Throughout the day, we'd been experiencing more strong winds and squally showers - interdispersed with high temperatures during sunny periods.

At the time, there was another passing heavy rain shower as the sun suddenly appeared from behind the parting rain clouds in our Westerly facing front aspect.

Rainbow reflections don't often feature here because of our topography - but luckily one occurred too!
