Vannacht redelijk geslapen; ik heb een bed op een vierpersoonskamer, die ik met één andere gast deel; een engelsman die net een 'greencard' heeft en nog aan het uitzoeken is wat hij verder gaat doen. De rest vsn de hostelgasten zijn een mix van toeristen, maar ook veel mensen die hier gewoon werken. Deze omgeving is even heel ver van de PCT..
Na ontbijt in het hostel (pannenkoek en wafels) ga ik op de fiets naar Griffith Park. Toen ik gister aan de hostel-beheerder vroeg hoe ik het beste aan een fiets kon komen wist hij te vertellen dat een eerdere gast een fiets had achtergelaten, die kon ik wel gebruiken; prima!
Ik ga naar het Griffith Observatory, bovenop een heuvel met mooi zicht op de stad en het Hollywood sign. Eenmaal in het park is de omgeving mooi, wel flink klimmen. Halverwege de klim stop ik bij een koffietentje voor thee en een stukje appeltaart; valt helaas tegen, maar de omgeving is wel grappig; veel Hollywood mensen, gesprekken gaan over casting, filmapparatuur enz. Het fietsen is een beetje zoeken; wat is mijn plek? Soms zijn er 'bike lanes', maar dat is ook niet meer dan een rijbaan op de weg (waar dus gewoon auto's rijden).
Het uitzicht vanaf de top is inderdaad mooi, en terug naar beneden fietsen gaat ook heel fijn. Begin van de middag fiets ik nog langs een supermarkt voor wat boodschappen voor de komende dagen; ik kan koken in het hostel.
Terug in het hostel eet ik een broodje en zit de rest van de middag in de tuin; het is tenslotte de bedoeling dat ik mijn voeten rust geef.. 'S avonds bedenk ik om naar de bioscoop te gaan, hoort eigenlijk wel bij een Hollywood-bezoek. Ik eet wat in het Hardrock café, om daarna in de TCL bioscoop 'Ocean's 8' te kijken. Een luxe bioscoop, in de centrale hal wordt een fotoshoot gedaan met acteurs van een nieuwe film. In mijn wandelkleding val ik iets uit de toon tussen de vele net geklede bezoekers :)
