Gray Ghost

The Grey Ghost continues his strikes against the impoverished City of New Orleans...wasting your tax dollars by painting over removable and or cleanable artwork. (Okay...not all of it is artwork, I concede, but most of it is still cleanable).

This is just in the Lower Garden District...the French Quarter Collection is coming up next.

If you want to improve your city, start by helping your city, not causing it more damage!

Mis-IDed, I think, looking at the other photos. Harriers, not white-tailed kites (kites have black shoulder patches).

Naturally, the only one in focus, you can't see the face. (sigh). The 75-300mm is too slow on the AF to catch these guys, and the 1.4x tc only magnifies the purple fringe and CA. I need a real lens.

I've seen a ton of immature and/or female Northern Harriers, but it's a rare treat to see an adult male - the so-called "Gray Ghost". This was one of those opportunities, and I still didn't get a great one. But I'll take it - they are just magnificent to see in the air.

This shot makes me think it' s a Harrier--the head is grey, and there's that owly-mask thing going on. And the eye looks yellow to me, not orange. And no black shoulder markings. Hmmm.

I have found no matter how fast or slow I drive, these raptors totally elude me. So today I decided to just sit in my car and wait and sure enough, two females and this male came within my camera's range.
