We went whale-watching that afternoon. Gray whales grow up to 15m long, but that's peanuts compared to the very very big Pacific Ocean. They feed near the bottom for 5-10 minutes at a time, take a few breaths (separated by quick, shallow dives), then disappear again. I was lucky to get the shots I did. Most of the time, all I could see was their spout off in the distance.

Tuesday morning before work (6/26/2012) during my weekly bird survey, I encountered this Gray Fox on Hill Country Conservancy's Nalle Bunny Run Wildlife Preserve. I slowly grabbed my camera and got a few shots, thinking for sure the fox was about to dart away. But to my surprise and delight it stayed. In fact, the fox didn't seem scared of me and acted almost tame. It casually watched me and yawned as I took photos. It trotted closer to me, then farther away, then closer again, then farther away again a few times. I couldn't believe it the first time I watched it trot towards me like a friendly dog. I kept still and quiet except for my camera snapping away, and I watched the fox for over 15 minutes. It never ran away. It was an amazing experience.
This frog is such a cutie! On the underside of his legs, he has some bright yellow patches that really stand out against his moist, gray skin.

Tubac, AZ - Waited all morning for the Common Black-Hawks to come through on their migration route along the Santa Cruz River but did not see any. It was a treat to see Gray Hawks and Zone-tailed Hawks, though!

This is one of the hardest species to photograph as they usually either fly or run away immediately. Today as I sat in my car watching, the pair relaxed, resumed feeding, and actually came in quite a bit closer. Lighting conditions not the greatest, but I shouldn't complain!!

The skies in Seattle have this gray color through the winter. It's rarely clear and with the glare of the city lights, it takes on a spooky glow. When it snows, it becomes a light gray. When it rains, it becomes a dark color where no light penetrates.
Right now I am waiting for my public transportation limo to come and take me to a magical place. I pick up my car next week. I will not miss the restrictions of the bus.
