Up the Gray Creek with my Tundra. The pass opened in 1990 in hopes to have a more direct route between the East and West Kootenays. Since then, it has become more of a 4WD back way to Kootenay Lake. The pass hits an elevation of 6800ft and is only open to vehicle traffic from July to Oct.

I only went out whale watching twice earlier this year for the winter season. I saw this gray whale and another on this trip.
On the other trip I saw the CA-51 transient killer whales. I didn’t really get good pictures of them because it was in the evening, but I did get some video footage of them that is okay if you want to see how that went:

Adult in basic plumage. In good light amongst Wandering Tattlers, this bird was actually quite obvious: distinctly paler gray upperparts (by a few shades); a much paler gray-white throat, cheek, sides of breast, and flanks compared to Wandering; and a bolder face pattern with more contrasting dark lores and a wider and longer white eyebrow - Laysan (26 February 2012)
Sat outside yesterday for lunch and spotted some blowspouts and the little black Y in the water there is a Gray Whale. It is the time of year that they pass through near Langley.

The trick, of course, in good bird photography is your ability to catch them first. When they are plucked out of the air, you then hold them in your fingers, not too tightly to harm them at all, but just enough for them to give you the look as if to say, "What do you think you are doing?" You then snap your picture, and voila! It does come easier with practice.

Ok, ok, if you hold almost any kind of food (digestive cookies worked well here) in your hand you will soon become inundated with whiskeyjacks. Not sure if its her seeing me or more than infested with ticks about the ears the way she approached her mate you could almost hear her say please help me .
We watched what was grooming with front teeth dragging downwards like a comb going over the ears of her.

like the hungry bear in autumn;

I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering:
what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?
A slender, dark gray bird with black cap on head, long tailed with brown undertail coverts.
Voice: catlike "mewing" - Long musical and mechanical notes and phrases. Sometimes seems to mimic other birds.
Range: Breeds from British Columbia, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia south to Washington, Texas, and Georgia. Winters from the Carolinas and Gulf Coast southward.
Catbirds are mostly insect eaters and their pleasing song makes them welcome to your garden.

Gray Catbird
So since theres nothing better to really do right now, I'm going back through all of my old photos and seeing what I missed, what can be reedited and so forth. Catbirds show up in the STL area in spring and summer to breed here. Their call is a brisk MEEEEow which sounds very close to an actually fluffy cat. They can be little flighty and it always seems that I can get close to them when I dont have my camera, imagine that!!! This one was taken in spring a few years ago at Tower Grove Park near the Gaddy Bird Garden.
