Based on the bibliography database a few years back at my research group SANS (now CBN) at the Royal Institute of Technology. People who have written paper together are joined. The color of the link shows the number of papers, the size of a node the number of papers and the intensity the time since the last paper. One can see different external research groups (like Mike Hasselmo's at the top) and internal research topics (the ANN side of Sans to the right, the more biological neural network projects along the left).

Just re-uploaded an updated version with Damon's bug fix for the afternoon and Tuesday spikes. There's still a post-lunch afternoon spike, but it's not quite so pronounced.

A simple programming excercise to "prove" rand()'s randomness. It ended up looking pretty good, meine Meinung nach.

Putting two colors onto a graph after initial lesson and example. Half the class did it right, but half of the class still didn't quite get the idea. So we went through every paper as a class and decided if the graph belonged in "Yes, that's right" or "No, not quite" and why. Then, we tried again

While reading through some documentation- I saw this graph. Why does it use 2 colours twice? Why are the colours so bad?
Synoptic is a 3D "interactive infographic" based on the chronological sequence of back-dated meteorological data from Augsburg (Germany). Users can select a data attribute to explore (e.g. temperature, luminosity, humidity, air pressure, precipitation), alter timespans, and detect outliers, trends or patterns over time on a three-dimensional line graph landscape.
The Tokyo: Right Now [xoxosoma.com] website illustrates a collection of census data from Tokyo, that solves the question: "What are you doing right now?".
The main graph exists of an interactive "streamgraph", similar to the Themeriver method, taken over by Last.fm's Stream Graph, LastGraph and the NYTimes Flow of box office movies. The graph represents different daily activities, ranging from 'gardening' and 'games', to 'walking the dog' and 'management of meals'. A set of more detailed streamgraphs break this data further down between men and women, and between their economic status, such as people in school, people with jobs, and so on.
The data is based on a survey results from the Statistics Bureau of Japan, which asked participants to log their activities every 15 minutes.
