I vistied the area around Cinque Terre in Liguria/Italy for a few days from May 1st till May 4th. Our hotel was located in Marina di Pietrasanta very close to the sea, from where we started our daily tours. The weather was pretty cloudy and also rainy, but we were able to do everything what has been planned for us. Been the first time for me to be so close to the sea for a longer time and we have really seen a lot during those days. We started our trip in Radenthein with a bus from the local travel agency Bacher Reisen on Thursday at 6 a.m. in the morning. Our busdriver was Heller Bernd, who knows everything about this region. On Friday we took a boat tour from La Spezia to Porto Venere and onwards to Cinque Terre. From Riomaggiore we took the train back to La Spezia and with the bus back to our hotel.

On Saturday we visited the marble quarry in Carrara and had a local guide named Mario who was an old police man who turned 90 years 3 days before. For that age he was in fabulous shape and a really funny guy! In the evening we visited Lucca which was also quite interesting. On Sunday morning it was the one and only day with more or less blue sky so I used an hour in the morning, before we were leaving, for taking some shots of the Pontile di Marina di Pietrasanta. A few short words on this and maybe more soon in one of my blogs. Hope with these pics you can enjoy a little bit as we did and if so feel free to share the links or download photos from my stock photo portfolios!

My wife has convinced me to again try two different views of the same image. She loves color images, while I love black and white. I figured I'd put it to a vote again to see which prevails. Let me know which you like better, the black and white or color version!

This image was shot along the Sea Wall around Stanley Park in Vancouver BC during a light rain.

The rocks at Drakes Beach are really quite awesome, and at high tide, they're just quite close to perfect for long exposures. I got quite soaked that morning, but thankfully the water wasn't that cold (even for a NorCal winter morning).

The third (and probably final) shot from the SF Bay Area Long Exposure Photo Walk. For this shot, I experimented with a shallow depth of field for the LE. Took 16 stops of ND to get the water nice 'n milky with such a wide aperture in the middle of the day. Feels pretty interesting though.

Over the last three days I've posted three circles of 500 each of all of the photographers that I'm currently following on Google+. For the most part these are active, engaged photographes on Google+ and represent some of the people that you may want to get to know if you want to participate more in the Photo Community that has emerged on Google+.

The Google+ Photography Community is the most active, engaged, positive group of photographers I've ever seen anywhere on the web. I'm constantly blown away and humbled by the quality of the work that people post there day in and day out. More than just the work, the photographers that I've met on there, that I've hung out with on there, that I've hung out in real life with on there (HIRL), are such amazing people that I've been so fortunate to have gotten to know.

Alot of people ask me how they might get more involved with Google+. I'd say that you can start with checking out these folks and I think you'll find most of them are pretty easy to get along with and interact with. You can check out these circles here:

Thanks to each and every photographer that I've gotten to know at Google+!

The Pacific Ocean was a bit feisty this morning. I've seen the waves break over the back of the pier before but this is best so far this winter.

It's been more than a decade since I've been there the last time. It's just one hour of driving away from where I live, but it's definitely worth a visit.

There is a Fotopoint as well:

The only thing I enjoy more than falling asleep to the sound of rain, is the fun I can have with puddles the day after. I took this at Fort Baker this morning at 5:30 when the blue hues come out most in photographs. I met a little friend in the process that had come out for some much needed hydration. Poor animals must be suffering from this California drought.
