It's been a week of extreme weather on Mull and I wouldn't have changed a moment of it. (no filters and no photoshop)
I really really really don't want Christmas to be over. I just love this holiday so much, and having our house decorated it splendid.
Goodbye Christmas, we will meet again..in 11 months!

The country music family has lost one of its own, the legendary Merle Haggard. I had the pleasure of seeing Merle in concert at the Tivoli Theatre in Chatt.,Tn. He was great! When I think of true country music, Merle always come to mind. He was the real deal. I will miss him and his music.

And goodbye sea... It's time to end our little trip to the sea and go back home.
This photo was taken on the beach in village Kąty Rybackie, Northern Poland.
This morning, Big Human and I went to the zoo. In January they will move to the newly built zoo and I thought saying goodbye to the zoo I've been visiting for 30 yers (God I feel old writing this!) was the right thing to do.
We first set out to the polar bears. I saw Lale (might be Noordje but I think it was Lale) playing with something.
We were astonished to see she was diving up a cat from the bottom of the waters.
Yes. A cat.
Apparently, a cat wandered into the zoo at night and climbed the electrical fence around the polar bears' enclosure. It was instantly fried and fell into the water.
Lale dragged her new friend on the shore but it did not help. It was a surrealistic but also a sad thing to see. The zookeeper threw Lale some fish to lure her into the nighttime enclosure and then another zookeeper started the process of getting the cat out of the water. The bears had not chewed on it or eaten any of it. I am sure it was someone's pet and that someone would like the pet to have a proper funeral after the misfortunous adventure.
I decided to post this pic only showing the feet as I did not want to upset you guys.
Getting older means saying goodbye to good friends like my partner for many years, Dr Mossa Hajisheikh, He was my deerest and truest friend in all my years and I truly loved him. He passed this afternoon from heart failure. I guess it was worn out from being such a good guy. He really saved my life in so many ways.
The past, present and future,
all laid out before thee
one path
one way
one wish
- come what may -
set out to disappear
greeting a souvenir
waiving a memory
or, turn around...?
one more time...?
one last goodbye...?
one first hello...?
or, simply...
goodnight,
one last time.

Last week one of my old friends passed away, Dik L., the central figure in this photo (leather jacket, light pants) at age 70 years. We were mates from our early university days. The scene depicts him amidst some of our friends on a Sunday morning after a huge party, early January 1976 in Groningen. Goodbye, my friend!

Goodbye, or good riddance. It's been quite a year. Let's all try to do better in 2018.
Temps are hovering barely above zero- and dropping- on a frigid, moonlit New Year's Eve 2017, as a CTA Skokie Swift / Yellow Line train lays over in the pocket south of Howard Street station, ready to begin its quick dash to Skokie. Presumably, it will return from its suburban destination with city-bound revelers.
**UPDATE**
so, I just found out today that my school that I'm going to has restricted Flickr. ='( so I will try to upload new pictures when I go into town or something, but I just wanted to let you all know. sorry!! I will miss looking at everyone's pictures terribly! BUT I do have a facebook, and a facebook "like" page, so you can keep up with me here..... hope to catch up on your pictures soon!!
please listen, if you don't mind. that's just what I'm listening to while finishing packing and taking this picture.
I realize that this is unlike my usual stuff, but that's one of the things I love about photography. I can use it to express emotion whenever I want, whatever kind of emotion and atmosphere it is I'm feeling.
I leave tomorrow! for the rest of my life. it's a bittersweet goodbye, but mostly bitter at this point. I'm going to miss all my great friends, and the gorgeous scenery, and my sanctuary, my bedroom.

now you can see where all my great natural light comes from!
and you might want to view this one large, there's so many little details.
Today the KCS no longer exists as an independent company. Now part of the CPKC.
With the exception of a few trips to Mississippi, most of my experience with the KCS has been along the former Gateway Western lines. The KCS takeover of the ATSF dependent GWWR brought stability to a line that had become redundant to the newly formed BNSF. The KCS continued the upgrade of the physical plant that GWWR started and the route is now in better shape than ever. The Bartlett Grain loading facility at Jacksonville has brought much needed traffic to an under utilized line and hopefully the new company will continue to bring in additional business.
I must admit that from a railfan point of view that after being able to photograph GWWR and ATSF powered trains, I initially wasn't really excited with the KCS takeover with their gray engines and all but when they brought back the Southern Belle scheme first to the business train and then to the rest of the fleet my opinion quickly changed.
Shown here is a westbound extra MESKC passing through the small village of Hillview IL on a Saturday afternoon in March of 2016. In a few miles they will cross the Illinois River at Pearl. The lead units look great in the belle scheme. Goodbye KCS.
Born: May 14, 1998, Gone: July 2, 2013. Rest in peace, Wrinkler.
We lost our Wrinkle dog yesterday. It all happened very quickly, and while I spent hours at the vet clinic, she died peacefully at home at 9pm. She just drifted away. 15 years is a good run, but I miss her awfully, and will continue to miss her I know..
This shot was taken a couple of weeks ago. She was old, but still vibrant.
Pancreatitis. We lost her older sister (Willow at 12) in much the same way.
We are so blessed with dogs and this is the inevitable part that really stinks.
A good neighbor of ours just died today. She wasn't your typical neighbor and to us she was just like family. She really loved to cook and she would make stuff for us and I would pick it up mostly once a week. I just found out when the police came and I can't believe that she is gone. So I wanted to dedicate this picture to her. Thank you for everything you have done! I am going to miss her very much... :"(
Off on my annual holiday in the Lake District with my lovely sister, on Wednesday until Tuesday 24th May, but she is staying with me for a little while before then, so I'm a bit busy trying to get the house in order for her. So forgive me for not being around much for a while ! I shall miss you all, particularly my partner co-admin Tony (Guy@Fawkes) - be good to him while I'm away and take care.
If you're on holiday too, have a lovely time and if you're not, have a lovely time anyway !
Taken from the Hardknott Pass looking down into Eskdale. My own textures applied and a touch of Topaz for good measure !
Well, my dear flickr friends and family......
Dave and i are leaving on holiday tomorrow for a couple of weeks. We are going to meet our new grandson, I can hardly wait!!
We are also going to visit friends that we have not seen in ages!!!
I will miss you all, and I do not have a laptop.
Will catch up (how i do not know!)!!!!
Stay well.
I lost a good friend last week. Mel Baughman was born in Rifle, Colorado, on November 2, 1948, and began working for the Rio Grande in 1967. Later becoming an engineer and retiring after 41 years with the railroad, he still called Helper, Utah, home. He died on November 2, 2017—yes, it was his 69th birthday. Goodbye, Mel.
