Here's a good friend of mine playing at the Dukes Golf Club at St Andrews ⛳ Leigh is a +1 handicap golfer and has played at the Eden Tournament for several years..

National Golf Lovers Day in 2025 will be on Saturday, October 4th. This day is an opportunity for golf enthusiasts to celebrate the sport by playing a round with friends, practicing at the driving range, watching a tournament, or simply sharing their love for golf.

Prompt: Create a whimsical digital fine art painting in ultra-realistic detail, vertical aspect ratio. The scene features two anthropomorphic dogs playing golf, one is a West Highland White Terrier and the other is a Salt and Pepper Schnauzer, on a lush green course.

Westie is dressed in a bright red sweater, is standing in a sand trap, swinging a golf club. Sand flies dramatically around him as he strikes, emphasizing comic timing and surprise. His eyes are wide with a humorous expression of frustration.

The Schnauzer, with wiry fur and wearing a light tan jacket over a navy shirt, stands on the grassy bank. He holds a red golf bag filled with clubs, looking on with shock and amusement at his companion’s shot. His mouth is open in surprise, and his eyes wide, adding to the humor.

The scene is set on a lush golf course with vivid green grass, trees in the distance, and calm blue water reflecting natural daylight. A golf ball is visible flying out of the sand trap, adding dynamic action.

At the top center, place clean, bold, elegant text reading:

“National Golf Lovers Day”

Digital fine art, painterly textures, ultra-realistic yet playful, no grain, no noise. Emphasis on bright colors, humorous expressions, and splash detail.

The 'perfect swing', well, perhaps not, I missed the green by about half a metre to the left but considering the trick club I was using the result wasn't too bad. YES, THIS IS ME.

Yes, this is me, playing in the annual Oaks Club tournament back in 2007 and on this particular hole, everyone had to tee off with this crazy 5-iron which had a two-way hinge in the shaft. You had to swing it just right to make any kind of solid contact at all. Obviously not my image - taken by a mate.

My daughter Elin Fanney on golf practice on Dec. 1 at Iceland.

I made some modifications to my golfer sculpture to create a new posture. I tried to get the angles corresponding to a pro swing finishing (not mine obviously).

"Astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr., Apollo 14 Commander, can be seen preparing to swing at a golf ball during a television transmission near the close of the second Extravehicular Activity (EVA-2) at the Apollo 14 Fra Mauro landing site. Shepard is using a real golf ball and an actual six iron, attached to the end of the handle for the contingency sample return. Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, Lunar Module pilot, looks on. Also visible in the picture is the erectable S-Band antenna (left foreground). Astronaut Stuart A. Roosa, command module Pilot (LMP), remained with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) in lunar orbit, while Shepard and Mitchell descended in the Lunar Module (LM) to explore the moon."

Trying to improve this year. Taking a series of golf lessons. Currently playing to about a 14 handicap, and would like to get in single digits.

My focus this week was on footwork and weight shift, specifically having the weight a little more towards the front of my feet than on my heels. Small change that makes a big difference.

Planning on getting a little worse before I get better, but am OK with that. The first of many to come, now that I have my new Flip camera.

Can You Play Golf in Snow?

When you hear about golf, the first thing that comes into your mind is a ridiculously wide green field with ups and downs along with some semi-large lakes here and there. That, too, under the nice warm sun in bright daylight.

Well, you might consider reconsidering your thought. What if I say, playing golf in a vast snow-covered field, in ice-cold weather is also a valid way to get the game going, there is nothing to raise your eyebrows.

Playing golf in the snow is actually a very popular version of the actual game. It’s very okay if you want to name it to snow golf. People do call it that way. Some even call it the Ice golf.

While Swinging, the trick is to initially throw the club with the clubface face up under the plane of the swing.

What it means is that even very close to impact the club face remains pointing to right field almost at right angle!!! Then, at the very last moment, centrifugal force and inertia will automatically square up the club face for impact.

It’s really scary when you try it for the first time. But it is a test of faith!

The more you throw it DOWN and OUT freely “open” without trying to line up the club face yourself, the easier for centrifugal force to line up you club face at the very last moment!
