- Day Two -
We left the highest point, Clingman's Dome, and continued downwards onto the winding, curving roads. Back onto 441, we followed Oconaluftee River southward. We pulled over along the way to admire (and photograph!) creeks, meadows full of wild flowers, and wildlife. We spotted numerous elks roaming.
We ended up getting "lost" down an odd little road full of small houses, domestic animals, and bizarre decorations; we easily turned back on track. Continuing south towards Cherokee NC, we made our next stop Oconaluftee Visitor Center.
There was a museum, a homestead wonderfully preserved, to show how families lived and survived in the mountains 100 years ago. My Mom was delighted and wonderstruck imaging life on the homestead; I tried my hardest to capture that moment for her!
Ellicott City, MD
Mini Series: Downtown
This series was photographed in March 2018. Ben, an old friend of mine, was in Maryland for work. He was helping set up and manage a new shop in Columbia. He had never been to Maryland before and asked to meet up. I had never personally been to Ellicott City before, but my parents were married there. They told me it’s a rustic town that I would love photographing, so I asked if Ben would check it out with me. The area we explored sits in the woods with a creek/river running right through main street. We roamed downtown - the bridges, alleyways, abandoned buildings, parks, and the old train station. It was a quiet and mysterious place, like a setting Ben or I used to write about when we exchanged our fictional writing to each other. The town floods frequently and many places were boarded up, but we did find some really neat antique shops and enjoyed exploring this dreary, ominous city.
By this point, I was exhausted. I just flew from Costa Rica, to Houston, to Denver, to Frankfurt and now Bangkok. All I wanted to do was sleep but I was so tired I became an insomniac and couldn't.

Surprisingly low, but bitterly cold. Mt Wellington provides the backdrop to Hobart and is a short distance by vehicle from the city. The mountain has high winds which have been recorded at sustained speeds of over 157 km/h (97 mph), with rare gusts of up to 200 km/h (124 mph). In the winter it often snows and the mountain is often snowcapped. Lighter snowfalls in spring, summer and autumn are also common. A day on the summit can consist of clear sunny skies, then rain, then snow, then icy winds and then clear again.
Making some pretty perfect memories this afternoon with our little fur babies...playing in the water and fetching a good stick!
