From Mono Lake we took Hwy 120 back towards Nevada. What an incredibly beautiful road! Just as you reach Hwy 6 there is a little town called Benton. It sits at the base of the White Mountains, an impressive mountain range with elevations reaching the 14,200' mark that looked particularly dramatic with the impending snowstorm. Benton is a sweet little place with hot springs, lots of history laying around and even a little bed and breakfast. We would like to come back one day and stay a night. (or two..)

Mangrove Conservation Bukan sekedar #pantai dan #wisata, #clungup sudah ditetapkan sebagai kawasan penyanggah #cagaralam #sempu statusnya kini sebagai #hutanlindung yang dikelola oleh kelompok masyarakat setempat. Masih banyak pekerjaan penanaman kembali #mangrove yang nampak dari sisa lahan-lahan gersang dan gundul sisa era reformasi dan konversi hutan menjadi ladang. Papan larangan berisi himbauan singkat dan ditujukan kepada masyarakat setempat " dilarang menanam ketela pohon di hutan lindung. #malangselatan #conservation #goexplore #indonesia #beach #gogreen
- Day Two -
We left the highest point, Clingman's Dome, and continued downwards onto the winding, curving roads. Back onto 441, we followed Oconaluftee River southward. We pulled over along the way to admire (and photograph!) creeks, meadows full of wild flowers, and wildlife. We spotted numerous elks roaming.
We ended up getting "lost" down an odd little road full of small houses, domestic animals, and bizarre decorations; we easily turned back on track. Continuing south towards Cherokee NC, we made our next stop Oconaluftee Visitor Center.
There was a museum, a homestead wonderfully preserved, to show how families lived and survived in the mountains 100 years ago. My Mom was delighted and wonderstruck imaging life on the homestead; I tried my hardest to capture that moment for her!
