While five days is too short to properly explore the Faroe Islands, we lucked out with spectacular weather that made taking in the country's dramatic landscapes an absolute pleasure. While people often talk about the Faroe Islands as being very similar to Iceland, Scotland or Norway the truth is it is its own distinct destination with raw shoreline and distinct geological formations that make it truly unique to experience and explore.

One of our stops was in this milky area called The Mily Way. The seabed was around 9 feet under water and is comprised of clay. The tour guides said that rubbing the clay all over your body helps make your skin smoother. The Japanese tourists were all over that.
- Day Four -
We started our day early and headed east towards Glacier National Park. Instead of taking the main road to the entrance, I suggested driving the longer way around to explore, why not? We are glad we took the path less traveled because we saw some awesome sights all around the Apgar Mountains!

(If you’re just now tuning in, this is another installment that is part of an ongoing series. You can start at the beginning- youloveben.com/choose-your-own-adventure)
It’s quite the climb back down from Manhattan. By the time you make it back into the valley, you realize the sun is going to set in a few more hours. You take a moment to appreciate the sun-rays and shadows cast from one of the only patches of clouds around. Seems a few of them occasionally do make it across the Sierra Nevadas… but there’s probably no rain coming from that rag-tag lot anytime today.
Ahead is a fork in the road where the one you’re on continues following this valley, more or less Northward (maybe even under those clouds; one can only hope). It might be a little more boring route to take, but you know you’ll cover a lot more ground by following the valley.
The sign by the trail off to your left, though, is what really caught your eye. It’s handmade out of wood and looks pretty weathered, saying only “ELDORADO – 200“.
That’s apparently Westward and up into those mountains. Slower going, but it sounds pretty compelling. The hills are green compared to this desert floor and who knows, maybe there’s water falling down one of those little canyons?
What’ll it be? North through the valley or West into the hills?
On the last day of our trip, it was time for all of us to split up and head home. Brent and Joel had several more days off and opted to stay in Africa. Nate, Vance and Greg had to go home and opted to fly standby through Europe. Luckily, I had Delta SkyMiles and cashed them in to fly back to America non-stop. But there's one more piece of the trip. The Delta non-stop flight back to ATL required a ton of miles that I didn't have. However, going to Saint Marteen in the Caribbean while connecting on the non-stop to ATL was less than half. So I opted to do that and spent two days in the Caribbean.
- Day Three -
The day started off a bit rainy and cloudy, but cleared up as we checked out some antique stores in the area. The sun began to shine through and we ended up having a gorgeous boat tour of Flathead Lake!

- Day Three -
Our adventure on day two led us all the way south through the Great Smokies and back. We enjoyed a relaxing night at Berry Springs Lodge and scouted out our adventure for the next day. Day three, we decided to head east, around the National Park instead.
We began in Gatlinburg, stopping at a few overlooks and admiring the town from above. We then followed Little River east, hiked at a few stops (Mom relaxed in her stone chair!), checked out Elkmont Campground, and eventually we made it to a man-made waterfall from the 1800s, "The Sinks".
We headed out of the National Park toward Townsend, a quaint little mountain town and onto Foothills Parkway, which skirted around the Great Smokies. It was a perfect road for bikers and sightseers. There were not many tourists at all but so many beautiful stops and overlooks.
One place in particular was Look Rock Tower, which was too high for Mom, but I had to check it out. I could see the highest peaks of the Smokies and an awesome panoramic view! After I came back down to find her, she had found some cool rocks to climb, lizards, and neat mushrooms for me to photograph.
We drove Foothills Parkway as far as we could, finally ending at Chillhowee Lake.

Mini Series: Downtown
This series was photographed in March 2018. Ben, an old friend of mine, was in Maryland for work. He was helping set up and manage a new shop in Columbia. He had never been to Maryland before and asked to meet up. I had never personally been to Ellicott City before, but my parents were married there. They told me it’s a rustic town that I would love photographing, so I asked if Ben would check it out with me. The area we explored sits in the woods with a creek/river running right through main street. We roamed downtown - the bridges, alleyways, abandoned buildings, parks, and the old train station. It was a quiet and mysterious place, like a setting Ben or I used to write about when we exchanged our fictional writing to each other. The town floods frequently and many places were boarded up, but we did find some really neat antique shops and enjoyed exploring this dreary, ominous city.
The Virgin River backs right up to our campsite at Zion River Resort. We had a blast playing in it, hunting for rocks, and letting the puppies swim.
Took these last year during a family trip - but a perfect time to upload them!
